Ya, the Shave Den Store sells it. All the way at the bottom, under Aftershaves & Colognes.

Thanks Garden Street, but I have one very important question...this says that Yardley comes in 4 flavors or kinds...do you know which one is the ORIGINAL...because that is what I want? Sorry to be such a bother my friend! I just want to order the right kind!

Rgarr, your only hope of scoring the original Original Yardley is to hit up Ebay. To my knowledge it hasn't been available in many years. Of all the current Indian versions, the Gold is the closest to the vintage Yardley.

ClubmanRob, Thanks for the heads up on Yardley. If I can't get the original then I sure want to get the next closest thing and it was confusing when I saw the 4 different kinds that they offer in the Shave Den store. I figured that they were knockoffs but I didn't know which came closest to the smell test! Thanks again!

The word "knockoff" intones that something isn't genuine. The India Yardley products are licensed by Yardley, but made in India. They are NOT knockoffs.

  11. Hi Boss,

If I may, let me tell you my thoughts about what the member meant by 'knockoffs'. I know that word has some bad juju associated with it, but it depends what context it's used in.

Yeah, a knock off watch usually means a cheap copy of something good, but there's another side also. Calling a fragrance a knockoff of another doesn't mean either fragrance is a bad one. Both can be good, but will resemble each other quite a bit. I believe Creen GIT and Davidoff Cool Water is one example(can't remember for sure though). They both have been compared to each other, with each being mentioned as knockoffs of the other. Depends on what opinion you read. Doesn't mean they're inferior products though, which is the point

I think the member was only trying to find something similar in quality that affected his sniffer as the other vintage stuff did. That make sense? Yeah, I think what he is looking for is an 'Hommage' to the old Yardley stuff.

Anyway, it's just the way things hit me. Heh, of course you know I DO miss a lot.......

Shavingidiot Savant aka Martin, I wasn't going to respond in kind to Queen of Blades cutting me up in little pieces...no pun intended because it serves no purpose.

I know what I meant and you knew ' exactly ' what I meant and I couldn't have put it more elegantly than you did...nor could anyone else!

Simply, to put it in my own words I'm old enough to have used some of my father's and grandfather's ' original Yardley Aftershave ' and believe it or not I can still remember that wonderful fragrance.

I have been told on this forum and others that the ' original Yardley Aftershave ' was no longer being made and wasn't available anywhere...except perhaps Ebay but that was doubtful.

So when I was told that the Shave Den Store offered it I knew that it wasn't the original and I saw that it came in 4 varieties so I asked on the forum as to which one MOST resembled the original and I was told the ' Gold '.

I'm most interested in the scent matching as closely as possible the original. By using the word knockoff I had no intention of implying CHEAP...just equal in aroma and scent. I didn't mean any harm on my part and I have explained it as well as I know how. Have a great day!

If you want to read tone into my post that is up to you, but I'd suggest you think before you speak/type things next time. Everyone knows "knockoff" has a negative connotation to it. You could have said it in a less offensive way.

After seeing someone's mention of our "knockoff" discussion on one of the other forums, I thought about this a bit more.

One problem with your explanation Martin is; these are both Yardley products we are discussing. Your example is of two different brands; Creed GIT and Davidoff Cool Water.

So therefore calling it a knockoff is more of a knock at the product I am selling.

Thanks for trying to help anyways, Martin. I know your heart is always in the right place.

  20. Ok Boss,

Let me once again just try and explain the way things look to me in this thread. You can(and will) believe what you like, but there's another side to this story you may not quite see. Now I didn't see that post you referred to, but it must have struck a nerve. Also, you're right to think I'd much rather try and defuse problems, rather than fan the flames.

First, both the member and myself agree that his choice of wording was unfortunate. Yes, I understand 'knockoff' will mean something inferior to most people who read that word. A Rolex would be a great example..........many fake ones out there that are cheaply made, and used to fool and impress people with. It's representing something it ISN'T, in other words. Ok? If that watch looked very much like a Rolex, but had a different name on it, it wouldn't be a 'knock off' of an original. It would be an 'Hommage', or accurate copy that's known not to be a real Rolex. It can still be a well made watch, just not a Rolex.

I looked at the posts again, and I see a member asking what fragrance being sold comes CLOSEST to an original scent he can't buy anymore. That's it.......nothing sinister I can see. He's not asking for a cheap fragrance that's meant to impress anyone.....something he can pass off as a much more expensive item. He's looking for a replacement, at least that's how I see things.

Anyway, it's your call as to what to think.....just mentioning another point of view. Heh, I know we don't always see things the same way, so who's to say what's right or wrong here.

    Martin
