After ready Bobby's (sparky5693) great review of the 89R I decided to give Parker another try. I had one of the early Parker twist to open razors and boy was it cheesy. This new three piece is far from it. I picked up the 91R from Rene last week. I chose the 91R because of the grip. As I have gotten older, some days it's harder to get a grip on the razor, this one is great! [vbpg]1348[/vbpg] Pros The quality of the plating is equal to the Merkur and in some cases better. The long handle and knurling make it easy to grip. Great blade exposure and it doesn't rest on the bar. I was suprised at the smoothness of the shave. [vbpg]1349[/vbpg] The balance is incredable, the weight of the head and handle go together well making the razor easy to control. Cons The alignment pins could be a little longer and I think this would eliminate some of the play. Once it's together, it's fine but longer pins would be helpful. It's a little testy changing the blade and if the head were a little wider it might be easier. Check my discussion thread in Safety razors and I'll compare it to the Merkur 38C. If you're looking for a longer handled razor that gives a great shave, this one may be your answer.
Definitely the best, and the easiest razor I ever owned. Perfect weight, balance and excellent blade exposure.
I Love This Razor! I have to agree with the above comments, this is a fine piece of equipment. I recently dropped & ruined my 89r which was my most used razor. The 91r has the same head, just a differently finished handle and I'm sure will be among my most used. It looks scary as there is a large blade exposure but don't let that intimidate you. It shaves wonderfully. The balance is terrific and the grip works well even with wet/soapy hands. The fit/finish match anything I've seen and it looks as good as any out there. I think it is probably the best new 3 piece razor out there and I would recommend it to everyone. Try it, you'll like it
A heavy duty razor, this razor is a nice alternative to a Merkur HD at a cheaper price. Build quality is top knot but attention to details may be somewhat lacking when compared to a Merkur. Some people find this razor to be really aggressive but I found it to be gentle and smooth when paired with an Indian 7'O Clock green blade even though I am a newbie to DE shaving. Grip is excellent thanks to the long knurled metal handle and the heavy weight makes it well balanced. Changing the blade may be a bit of a hassle due to the 3 piece design but once loaded, excellent shaves is what it delivers all the way.
Very nice razor and well built. The chrome finish is 1st class. It shaves very smooth and gets the job done quickly without any fuss. It certainly is an alternative to other more expensive razors and definitely in my rotation.
