Penhaligons 'Racquets' shaving cream

  1. Hi All,

I've tried a few other Penhaligons offerings in the past, and each of those creams performed extremely well for me. This version was no different, although this scent is my favorite of any creams or soaps offered by that company. Heh, although.......the Endymion is pretty good also.

Anyway, I bought this from a forum member, and I believe it's not available anymore. I wear the Racquets cologne occasionally, and will sometimes even mix it into a small amount of unscented AOS cream. I won't be doing that mixing thing anymore, since this cream has got plenty of scent to it. I'd rate it fairly strong, which is great if you like the cologne.

The consistancy is a little runny when squirted from the tube...not a problem at all. No, maybe that's not the right word for the texture. It's a very soft cream, as opposed to a denser one that needs to be scooped out of a tub. Yeah, that's better.

In any case, it lathers like crazy(as do the other Penhaligon creams I've tried). Takes about an average amount of product to create some very impressive lather. Very beautiful and rich looking results for one thing.....impressive effect. The stuff just looks inviting, and smells pretty darned good as well. The scent lasts during my 4+ passes, and never sorta gets lost in the background like some other soaps/creams may.

The lather itself is denser than most, and holds up well throughout the shave. Very slick, with plenty of cushion..........the razor glides around without effort. After shave skin care is better than most.

Pricewise, tubes of Penhaligon creams run about $30-35 for 5 ounces before shipping. Yeah, it's approaching Castle Forbes territory and a few others. I can't speak for other readers when determining if a shaving cream is worth spending that amount of cash on. I know there's other creams that perform really well and aren't nearly as pricey. In my case, I justify(rationalize) things by telling myself how many shaves I'll get from this tube. I was lucky enough to snag my NOS tube for $25 shipped, which did help in making me pull the (hair)trigger easier. Still, I would have paid the going rate for having a treat like this around.

I have a jar of Castle Forbes that's lasted me two years, and hope to have some of this cream around for a long while. It'll be a great change of pace from my usual rotation. Yeah, I'm glad I bought this cream.

    Martin
