When I was trying to figure out what to lather up in, I remember my mom had sent me this pewter mug that I apparently used all the time as a little kid. Seems to be working out pretty well so far although a bit narrow I think.

Getting the job done for now until I decide to upgrade to something more official

Timelord I get 12 times the shaves out my blades!

Very nice! You've gotta keep it if it has a history and was a present from Mom. Maybe you should consider a smaller brush?

Funny you said that - went w/ a smaller brush this morning & got my best lather to date - very excited to say the least

I had a Pewter revere bowl such as this one:

It wasn't pleasurable at all. Being made out of metal the lather would get cold very quickly. In terms of performance a plastic one from the dollar store would be much more comfortable until you get the money for a fancy ceramic one or scuttle.

Thanks for mentioning that. I've been eying several metal bowls and never thought about heat retention. Hopefully, with his being pewter and fairly thick-looking, it will do ok for him.

I am well aware of that. My point was that most things you find in pewter are relatively thick as opposed to a thin sheet of metal and should therefore retain heat a little better.
