I picked up two nice Schick 274 / possible Krona razors. One with a case and one without. * One is a my quess a late era 1964-65 plane door caps nickel TTO Knob with styrene case. Plane Schick stamp no triangle on bottom of base plate with the # 1 1 1 stamped on it. The razor weight 56 grams. Old style lift mechanism. Schick Krona super stainless 10 blade pack. * The other is my guess a 1969-1970 era Schick 274 with the black plastic TTO knob new style Schick lift mechanism weight 38 grams. Schick stamped on each top cap doors with Schick made in USA on bottom plate in small lettering on one side. Also a capital A is stamped on top side of plate towards center. A little follow up, I have quite a Gillette collection but these are the first two Schick razors that I have added to my razor collection. So this afternoon I decided to shave with the 1970 era black tip 274 from the above pic’s. I was really impressed the razor it gave me a fantastic shave that was very smooth close and comfortable with two day’s beard growth. I have heard guys say these razors are very underrated in the double edge safety razor world today and I would definitely agree with that. This Schick 274 razor is definitely going in my rotation. Again the razor it gave me that good of shave and it may on tract to becoming one of my favorite shavers. I wish I had picked up one of these Schick 274/Krona razors sooner. Happy Shaves Everyone, Bill G
Fantastic shavers, definitely underrated in some circles, and certainly overshadowed by the Gillette brand. I tend to prefer the heavier versions but get great shaves from all of them. Over the winter while continuously hooked to an antibiotic IV in a rehab facility I had to limit my shave gear so I chose a gold Schick Krona and an early version Maggard MR4 as my only two razors for 11 weeks.
Thanks for the great feedback. Yes I agree these razors are overshadowed by the Gillette brand vintage razors (I have quite a few Gillette razors myself). I sure hope you get feeling better soon and can get off that antibiotic IV. Happy Shaves, Bill G
I got off of it February 7. I had open heart surgery March 25 so now I’m four weeks into recovery from that. Hopefully by the end of June, I will be back to my regular life as previously known.
Speaking of surgery; I’ve had beards and I’ve shaved them off but I’ve never really suffered from what is described as “beard itch”. However, getting my stomach (no chest hair to speak of) shaved for surgery and then having it grow back…. now that is itchy!!
I can relate to that after a surgery I had a while back, yes it can get itchy. I do get the beard itch if I let mine grow out. Bill G
I ran across another Schick 274 Krona today at a good price and it was also super clean so I grabbed it up. I like the fact that this one says Krona on the top cap. Happy Shaves To everyone, Bill G
I have one from 1965. I find it to be almost as mild as the contemporary Gillette Superspeed, but more efficient. An excellent shaver when paired with a sharp blade.
