I got a bottle by sneaking it into an order that my wife had setup on amazon. It came yesterday and I tried it this morning. I am a fan of the clubman line. I like the lime sec by itself and as a cologne in combination with other citrus aftershaves. About once per week I use the classic Pinaud Clubman after shave lotion because hey, who doesn't want to smell like they just walked out of a barber shop? So for the special reserve... When I splashed it on this morning I got the same feel on the skin as the classic after shave lotion. It tightened my skin and I felt some moderate conditioning with a little warming sense probably from alcohol. The scent is definitely MANLY. It is almost overpoweringly musky and spicy. Trust me on this. a little will go a long way. I've only been wearing it for a few hours, but I sense that the aroma will last all day. After letting it sit on my face for a few minutes, I walked over to my wife to ask for a review, and it was "meh, not my favorite"; but hey, you can't wear lavender every day. So in the end for the days that you really want to smell manly, this would be the one. For me it will probably make it to the back of the counter. I don't see it in my regular rotation.
One of my favorites. Then again I use The VEG....(wife likes them both apparently neither of us have proper sniffers)
You know, now that the day is going on, either my nose has gotten used to it or it is much more subtle. Maybe I'll try it again next week and not use as much.
A review I read suggested that this is a scent Indiana Jones would wear. It's strong, so too much can be too much. I enjoy it, like a comfortable motorcycle jacket. From Basenotes.com, "The first 5-10 seconds of tree-tarryness settles and sends you on a Quorum-esque roller-coaster ride of green herbs and woods, which after about 20 minutes turns cedary and leathery. I will differ with other reviewers and not blatantly compare this to English Leather, although there are similar notes: the pencil shaving-y cedar is there, but the leather is more of a rugged worn leather than English Leather's bright new leather accord."
I've been having some thoughts about the SR. I still have a fair amount of the Original to go, so I'll finish that one first. Then it'll be decision time. I'm curious, does your wife like the Original better, or perhaps she needs to get used to the SR to make a fair comparison. I think what will happen is I'll end up ordering the SR(if I choose to), in a package with another of the Country Club shampoos. Good amount of the shampoo still left.
Both of these are "manly" scents, but completely different. For the cost, they are both probably worth having on the shelf. I also enjoy the Bay Rum.
I bought a clubman sample lot of 8 different fragrances a while back. My favs are the original, lime sec, and lilac vegetal...but i like them all. I will have to go back and re-visit the special reserve.
I'm fortunate to have a local beauty supply store that stocks many Pinaud products. One they don't and I do want to try is the Lime Sec. Gonna have to Amazon order it. From reviews it sounds good. Not as good as Stephens (discontinued) Island Lime. But for less than ten bucks I'll take a chance. If I don't like it, my granddaughters might.
It is clovey, but I like it. I use it after shaving with Stirling Bay rum soap & I feel like a pirate.
I like lime sec. You can use it as an AS splash or as a cologne in combination with other citrus AS splash. Big bottle, worth every one of the 700 pennies it costs.
It's on my antique & thrift store shopping list. I haven't spotted any in the wild. ebayers ask too much. Like it's Vintage or something. Fumble fingers Via Kyocera / Tapatalk
I have seen a couple cheap ones on there lately. It seems to be the toughest avon scent to find in the wild.
