I really hate to bring this subject up but I did just purchase a bottle of brut for a member in Germany but decided AV was much more valuable for the outrageous shipping prices:D I used Brut back in the day and i still get mild flashbacks from the episodes of "Brut destruction". I happened to visit my basement shave den in search of a cold brew and decided to sniff shave products as I normally do for absolutely no reason.

Is it me or does Clubman and Brut share about 70% scent characteristics? Out of the bottle they do smell quite similiar. On the skin? No. I much prefer Clubman b/c its alot classier and maybe more powdery? I still believe they share something. ClubmanRobb might be able to help in this and of course I might be totally off key here. They just seem similiar. Of course I thing D.R. Harris Arlington and WARS share a bit as well. It might be the beer talking but I dont think so. If I was single I would douse myself with both and hit the local redneck/pickup bar to see what would happen. I cant do that these days.

They may share a few notes here and there but very different in scent and feel.

No idea...I only use Brut. :) Never even tried the Clubman. My drugstores around here don't sell it. As much as I like the "old timey" colognes like Brut, Old Spice, Stetson, Barbasol, English Leather, etc. maybe I should order it one day...

    No resemblance whatever.

    I love Club Man.

Anyone know of a cologne very similar in scent to it?

I think truefitt and hill clubman smells a bit like it

and T&H Freshman like polo blue.

Then again JoAnna makes a clubman like cologne. :D

Clubman and Brut are both fougéres, so they are going to share some similarities. They were both modeled after the original Royale Fougére but the Brut adds a vanilla note that makes it entirely different from the Clubman (to me).

I hear Canoe smells like Clubman to a lot of folks. Kent, T&H Clubman, Essex and Pinaud Clubman cologne are all suitable Clubman scents. All but the T&H and Canoe may be hard to find outside of Ebay.

Thanks for the clarification. I did do a test of both on the skin and they do smell completely different but it seemed similiar out of the bottle. I much prefer the Clubman and maybe it is the vanilla in the Brut that turns me off. Still not a bad scent but........

    Pinaud makes a Clubman COLOGNE?

Is it vintage or made still in production.

Got to try Canoe. Heard it's good anyway - cheap too.

Yup yup. The Clubman cologne's been out of production since the late sixties though it pops up on the Bay every now and again. I did a review way back when over at the "other" forum.

    WOW!

Canoe smells so incredibly similar to Pinaud Clubman.

I wonder how its staying power is...

Just pulled the trigger on my first bottle of Clubman AS today. There is certainly a similarity between it and Brut but I must give the edge to Clubman thus far.

Except for the Lilac V., Pinaud's line-up is killer.

I don't know what I was thinking saying Master's smells better than Pinaud's Bay Rum.

I have well over a dozen bottles of EDT and fragrances.

Some poplular ones such as Di Gio and some hard to find imported scents such as Reve.

However, I have been revisiting the old school stuff lately. And, I've been thoroughly impressed with what I'm finding.

The problems I have is making a scent last.

You pick up Brut or old school original Polo, it will last you! Yes, you will smell like your grandfather, but chances are he was a heck of a guy. Think hard...remember that close shave he always seemed to possess?

I think back and it seems my grandfather was always shaving. As if he enjoyed it or something. NOW I see why. And yes, he smelled good too. The g/f can keep her spas, I do mine right at home.
