Hey guys. I have a question. I've started to really love aftershave splashes. I used to mostly rely on balms for the moisturizers, as well as the fact that many aftershaves dry out my skin. But now that I've been getting into splashes (I found that many DO moisturize, AND they're great for razor burn), I usually throw on the aftershave, then finish with a balm or, my favorite...Corn Huskers Lotion. I do notice, though, that the balms sometimes cover up the nice scent of the aftershave. Should I simply mix the AS in with the balm, or should I apply the balm FIRST, then splash on the AS? What are some of your aftershave/balm techniques? I'm curious. Mike p.s. I also now use an alum block and/or witch hazel after every shave too. Love it. I've found that it prepares the face for the aftershave burn.
I just use the more moisturizing splashes since balms leave my skin oily. TSD splashes are the best I've tried, though I really need to give SCS a chance.
I normally put the splash on first followed by a balm if needed. I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't apply the balm first and then the splash. Try it out and report your findings...
Reply The reason I asked about the AS after the balm was because I read a blurb from a guy who did just that...AS after the balm. I guess the moisture from the balm is still retained if you don't overdue the splash.
aftershave splash then balm. Plenty of light or unscented balms out there that don't interfere with the scent of the a/s, IMO. good luck
I always use a moisturiser then apply my splash, think it came from reading an article in a mag a few years ago about how a/s can dry your skin out so applying something first will save this, dont know if it works though as i have always done it this way.
hi i use a pree, shave oil american crew find it very good and does not alter any shaving soap or cream i am using, after my shave i mix the 444 after shave balm and whatever colonge together on my hand and rub that in all over the shaving area it gives a great cooling afect blus the sent of the colonge great work,s for me
Since reading this post I've been applying the balm first followed by the splash and I can't say that I've noticed any difference than when I apply the splash first.
I use Witch Hazel or Clinique Post Shave Soother, then my AS or cologne. No problems, no complaints, and my wife likes the way I smell!!
I've noticed a lot of ppl, oddly enough, use a moisturizer/balm first then add splash. I do it sometimes. I don't think there is much of a difference. I cannot stress enough what product I think everyone should use on his or her face and body. Vaseline's Unfragranced Moisture Lock lotion. It's very inexpensive, very thick. I water it down. One thing I won't do is just use splash on its own.
My usual routine is cold moist towel A/S splash (usually Proraso) cold moist towel cologne gentle massage with a dry brush Sometimes I use Thayers or an alum block instead of the splash. goshawk
Sometimes the boldest action is no action at all. I'm a HUGE fan of Corn Huskers Lotion. My post shave routine goes something like this: Finish shaving, cold water rinse, dry face, apply Dickinson's WH, apply Corn Huskers Lotion, apply AS then cologne or EdT (if desired). Sometimes I substitute WH and Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel (mixed 1:1) for the WH/CHL method. I'd say your doing fine with CHL and your favorite splash.
