When I visited my cousins in Phoenix in the early 70's(man it was nice to get away from the cold weather here!), the big prank was always "papering the neighbor's tree"
If April 1 fell on a school day, I would always write the date, on the board, as 3/32 and then see how long it took the kids to notice.
