Recently picked up a GEM Micromatic Clog Pruf. Tried to clean it up. Noticed that the handle mechanism works. However the top cap, when a blade is locked down is difficult to reopen. The mechanism can't be disassembled (that I am aware of)... Any suggestions?
The Micromatic Clog-Pruf is one of my all-time favorites! It's a wonderfully engineered, smooth shaver. Thoroughly clean and lubricate (mineral oil) the rotating dowels and locking cam on the bottom side of the head. I've procured some ULTRA gummed-up Micromatics, and with a little elbow grease and patience they've all came out fully functional.
Let it soak and while it is submerged in your cleaning solution, open and close it until it is smooth. Repeat...
I assume that the lubrication is only on the head and not the handle. Handle rotates properly. It seems to jam up when the top cap moves forward to full lock down the blade
The seam where the rotating knob meets the main shaft could benefit from some mineral oil too. Just make sure it's clean before lubricating. Focus your efforts on cleaning and lubricating the head, initially. Lots of moving parts up there with some tighter tolerances (relatively speaking).
