I just acquired a tub of Proraso Red with sandlewood and shea butter. I have to say it makes a very nice, thick lather, and I like the scent. Supposedly it's for barbe dure--tough beards. Mne is actually not so tough. But it's also supposed to be more moisturizing than the other Proraso soaps. But can anything you leave on your face for such a short time really moisturize it. What do you think?
Red is one of my favorites. I really don't pay attention to any claims of moisturizing on any product.
Red is excellent. I can feel a difference post shave with this or other shea butter soaps compared to other soaps.
I don't know if it actually moisturizes your face, but I find that there are plenty of otherwise good soaps that do dry my face, and the Red is one that doesn't dry it. Soaps that dry my face don't stay long in my den. The Red is one that sticks around.
I tried my best to like the scent of the proraso red, but there is just something almost artificial that turns me off about it. I PIF'd it to my barber. It wasn't a keeper. I'm still in search of a good sandalwood soap.
The scent of Saint Charles Shave sandalwood is good, in my opinion. The soap itself is just a bit picky on lathering.
I think I've tried one of their soaps before, savory rose was the scent, but I PIF'd it to a newly converted student. I will have to check them out again. thanks for the suggestion.
Proraso soaps in general are very good, but I guess there are much higher-end soaps that I haven't tried. One hard soap I picked up--Badger--makes terrible lather.
I use it and I have a tough beard, but that wasn't the reason I got it. I don't really pay attention to the designations of creams. I got it cause I love sandalwoon and shea butter in any products makes it better for my skin.
Shaved with Proraso red this morning on my face. Very nice shave...wish I had used it on my head as well. You live and you learn.
I had a tube of Proraso red once. I traded it for a GEM Micromatic Bullet Tip in November of 2013 and haven't replaced it yet. I have too many soaps/creams. Need to use some up before replacing.
I really like my tub of red. It gets plenty of run outs. I can't say I have noticed any more moisturiser than any of my other favourites. But it's a quality product, with an excellent scent. Looks like a few of us will be breaking out the red tonight/ tomorrow. Me included.
I haven't used the Proraso Red since I ran out and haven't gotten around to replacing the tub. I really enjoyed it, it has a sweeter sandalwood scent that is more parallel to the AOS sandalwood then say, for instance, Captain's Choice sandalwood aftershave. I found the moisturizing properties and post-shave feel to be pretty good but I don't remember it being a particularly dense lather, like a Barrister and Mann, or Stirling. Still, it's very good and worthy of a place in the regular rotation. I'm tempted to place an order now that I'm thinking about it.
