Unlike the original reviewer, I find this soap to be among the most protective product I've used. I have completely soft water (water softener) which might make a difference in the thickness/protection of the later I get, and also in the longevity. The lather produced for me doesn't seem to deteriorate in any reasonable time frame. I can let this stuff sit all day in the bowl and it would simply dry in place and still hold it's peaks for me. I can not think of a single time that I have gotten irritation or a nick while using this soap. I think this is probably the most protective soap I've tried, and I've tried quite a few. The scent, to me, was a very very strong floral scent which I did not like at all. After letting the soap sit in the open in my laundry room for 3 or 4 days, the scent level came down to an acceptable level. The scent has grown on me, but is still not my favorite. I still prefer the scent of L'Occitane Cade or Pre de Provence, but that's just me. Lately I've been rotating this soap with a couple of other soaps and creams "testing" the moisturizing properties by not applying any ASB after my shave for at least 30 minutes or so on days I'm working from home, and this soap definitely ranks up with the best for not leaving any hint of tightness or dryness on my face when I finish. It is every bit as good as MWF in that regard in my experience. I will definitely buy this soap again when I get low.
You should try their aftershaves then. I like the Green Tea better but the Verlaine smells pretty good too. Both are phenomenal after the shave non-alcohol based splashes.
Aside from having a slight preference to the Verlaine over the Green Tea, I'm right with Shep on this one.
I agree with you about the scent. I loved how it performed, but for some reason the scent reminded me of a wet dog.
I'll have to watch for the ASB to try a sniff sometime. Not sure I would do a blind purchase. Pre de Provence and L'Occitane Cade are so good in both scent and performance...
Haven't tried the green tea, but I love the Verlaine. I've used it for a week and am getting comfortable with the amount of product/water to use to get a great lather and I like this almost as much as my Irisch Moos stick. I wish Irisch Moos would make a tub or puck version. I can't be bothered with grating it. But the Provence de Sante is terrific, lots of body, slick as can be, holds up well in the scuttle during the shave. Inexpenxive on Amazon. About $13 and qualifies for free shipping, so if you run out, buy two for $26 when you restock, delivered! Can't beat that.
