Putting together a wetshaving groomsmen gift, would love ideas

I've got a bit of time to plan this out, so thought I'd ask for some ideas/thoughts. My brother-in-law is getting married later this year and I'm planning the bachelor party (in Vegas, where else?).

My idea for the groomsmen take-away is a wooden cigar box, converted into a wetshaving kit.

    I figured I'd include:

    1) A safety razor - given the fact that all of these guys will be new to wetshaving, I think a new razor will be a better choice than used. So I was thinking perhaps of one of Razorock's offerings in that $18-$20 range. I have a friend who owns an awards shop and can probably engrave the heads.

    2) A pack or two of blades - I have so many that I won't even need to buy these

    3) A puck of shaving soap/croap - It's hard to resist the temptation of the pricing of Don Marco or even RR Classic. However, I've also thought of having JoAnna create a custom puck.

    4) A brush - Any thoughts here as to a decent entry-level brush would be appreciated.

    5) A few non-shaving, bachelor party themed items - A book of wooden matches (with playing card design), a cigar & a mini bottle of liquor (or maybe a mini flask of alcohol)

    6) I was also thinking of having each person's name on a monogrammed plate on their own shaving kit, as well as gluing a shaving mirror to the inside lid.

    Thoughts/ideas? Thanks!

    Wow! I want one!!

Having JoAnne create a custom puck sounds cool.
For a brush, I'd look over the Omega collection and go with a boar brush.
    Cigar cutter?
And don't forget a list of links to TSD, Mantic's videos, various on-line shave shops, etc.

Great idea! I'm not sure I'd have the razor heads engraved though. If those RR heads are zinc alloy, they'll corrode if you compromise the plating.

If you're going to personalize the kits I'd definetely go with the custom puck of soap idea. I also agree with Steve and Brian and might consider adding a nice writing instrument possibly or other grooming items (tweezers, nail clippers, hair tonic, etc.) but it would be fine just with what you've got so far.

All great ideas, but I'm with feeltheburn on the engraving. Even if they're brass it would compromise the plating and lead to early plate loss.
Of course a costly option would be to have them deeply engraved then replated ;).

Good point. I think I'll stick with attaching a monogrammed name plate on each box.

I'm with Steve; I want one also...;)
Just some ideas that popped into my head while I read this....
    1. maybe vintage razors...If the recipient does not convert, he would still want to display that lovely shiny vintage shaver in his office or where-ever. They would have to look mint. Not to make it cost prohibitive you could get beautiful like new Ever-Ready 1914's or GEM 1912s, Gold Micromatics....these are all lovely showpieces, great shavers and a 1/2 dozen of them still cost in the neighborhood of the RR razors you're looking at.
    2.Blades-Cool
3.Joanna Custom puck-very classy and hip idea...
4.Brush-I thought the samething Steve mentioned...check out the Omega Boar line
    5.all good ideas
6.your ideas good...also my wife had my father's picture put on a shaving mug, I loved it...maybe there's something here for you to mull over...customized shaving mug is inexpensive and can be very thoughtful...

Good Luck...let us know what you're up to with this...;)

Hey, Shawn. Long time, no Razo Rock. LOL!

I like your idea of shaving supplies, but instead of a cigar box, how about a nice leather dop kit to put it all in?

Maybe add a little container to put the soap puck in or a custom mug like someone stated previously. You could go to a Paint your own pottery place and do all the mugs & customize each one individually.

I am not a crafty guy...but went with the family this Christmas and did a container for soap......not to bad I must say!!:)

If they will be new to wetshaving, a copy of Leisureguy's Guide to Gourmet Shaving book might also be a good addition. It is something instructional that they can read offline, in addition to the online resources. The groom could also pen some sentiments on one of the inside covers or blank pages for each groomsman. IMHO, swarden's idea of a list of links to Internet resources is a good one.

Here's my update so far on this project:

Cigar Boxes: Got 'em! I think I'll end up using the wooden ones, after all. I love the look of the paper-wrapped ones, but A) they don't have latches and B) most of them are just a bit too shallow to accommodate a tub of shaving soap

Shaving Soap: JoAnna is going to be making Aqua Di Gio scented soap, with possibly a personalized label

Razors: Decided to go with RR Travel Razors. Same head as the new RR Mission Razor, but breaks down into 4 pieces and comes with a travel case

Blades: It'll be whatever I have on hand. Probably Astras, Voskhods or 7 o'clocks

Brushes: I'm thinking of Omega 10049. Thoughts anyone?

Cigar: Still trying to pick a good one for people who don't smoke regularly. ACID makes some interesting ones. Don't think I'm willing to drop the dough on a Davidoff.

Cigar Cutters: Will buy these locally

Matches: Bought some fun retro-design wooden matches from AERO Home

Was thinking of buying mini-flasks and mini-bottles of whiskey. Not sure yet on that part. I'd love to do some personalized playing cards, but 'tis already getting out of control budget wise. Any other ideas or thoughts would be welcome! Thanks!

I have to say, these are turning out to be rather nice groomsman gifts and you're a swell brother-in-law.

    Lookin' great!
Any way to personalize the cigar cutters? I was once a member of a wedding party and the groom gave all the guys a small pocket knife engraved with our initials.

Acid are a good choice. Not too strong.

I haven't purchased the cutters yet, so not sure. Good idea though!
