I can't wet shave for another 3 days or so, so I will be using my electric razor. :sad029

What should I do before electric shaving?? Unlike wet shaving, there aren't many guides available. Should I shower first (and wait till my face is dry) before shaving?

I used to use an electric razor back in the day...

Just the opposite of wet shaving, an electric razor works best on dry beard and unhydrated skin. I used to shave right before getting in the shower.

If I need to use an electric razor, which is not that often luckily :ashamed001

I shower, have breakfast & coffee and step into the car. On the way to work, which takes up about an hour and a half, I shave.

If I'm on the road and needed to leave in a hurry, for stress-business, I shave electric before I take a shower!

    Hope this helps :D

The few months that I used an electric, I always shaved dry too. I remember that it took a while for my face to toughen up to the electric, and that I had razor burn at first.

Good luck, mate. I hope your return to the blade will be quick!

I used to shave with an electric, and still have my old Remington triple foil. It would shave just fine before showering. Of course, it it starts to irritate, that would be the time to stop shaving regardless of how close the shave was at that point. Shaving after showering gave BBS or near BBS shaves almost every single time but ONLY if I allowed my face to completely dry first. Those shaves definitely got the girlfriend seal of approval. Trying to shave before my face was dry produced irritating, rough shaves.

Sorry, no advice to give. The last time I used an electric was roughly 25 years ago, and then it was just a couple of times. It just didn't get close enough for me.

Anyway, I hope what the guys have shared so far help and you get a shave you're satisfied with.

  7. You should wash your face prior to electric shaving, to get rid of surface oils, dirt, etc... Your face must be 'bone dry' and I mean BONE DRY in order to get a decent shave. Any type of 'takyness' or moisture will cause friction, and the head won't glide over your face smoothly. Your face needs to be completely dry, so that the whiskers stand out, as moisture will make them soft, droopy, and stretchable. There are numerous products to help 'bone dry' your face, but here's the simple truth... sprinkle your face with talcum powder, or baby powder. Doing so will absorb any moisture left on your face due to natural oils and such, and also create a slight amount of 'slide'. Then, once the talcum powder has been lightly rubbed in, go ahead and use your electric shaver.

After shaving, rinse your face with warm water, pat it dry, and apply a moisturizing shave balm, then afterhsave/cologne if desired.

I used Lectric Shave. Available most everywhere. I used Norelco exclusively for decades.

BTW. I use Lectric Shave prior to wet shaving today. Then choose an oil or lather for my multi-passes.

Works for me and the missus.....She likes to touch my face and take a sniff after I've finished..... :eek:dang!:D

I bought a pre-shave ages ago for it, but haven't dared to use it. :ashamed001 It's Tabac and it smells realllllllllllly strong (and contains alcohol). I'm pretty sure that my face will fall off if I use it.
