Question about razors with butterfly wing doors

My main razor is a Merkur HD, but I picked up a Schick Krona out of curiosity. Today was only the 2nd day I have tried to use it. I noticed that when I would rinse off the head of the razor, that my finger would sometimes brush against the nob of the handle and loosen the doors, which gives the blade room to move. As soon as I noticed this, I started tightening the doors back, but this seems like a bit of pain.

Is this a common problem or am I just holding the razor incorrectly? Are they always this easy to brush open?

I have three Krona's and have not noticed this issue. I have not had any issues with any of my other TTO razors coming open so easily either.

Maybe you are not torquing the TTO hard enough when locking down the blade?

Either that, or you have a bum razor that won't stay snug when tightened down. Not that it has to be gorilla tight, but, as Jeff said, it does require a bit of torque. I do hope it's not a bum razor.

  4. Depending on how much of a 'hassle' per se it is for you, then maybe your TTO ring doesn't stay tight. Years ago, I came across some old Gillette directions which said, "When rinsing your razor clean, loosen the doors a bit and allow water to run through and over the razor head and blade. Lightly shake water from razor, tighten up the doors, and allow razor to dry." So, based on this, I always loosened the doors a bit on my TTO razors, do as described above, and let it go at that.
