Yes, I know there are a few of you around, you can't hide. As I'm very close to making the decision to move or not, there is one thing I'm wrestling with: You have no water. I heard a while back that CA had one year of water left. What's the deal with that? 12 months from now, is it possible that your taps are dry? Any plans coming into place for that? How serious do you take it? Any insights would be appreciated.
Although it's a very serious issue and we are on a mandatory 30% water rationing I don't see California running out of water. Lawns won't get watered, fountains won't flow, but your tap will. We're Californians! We'll get through this like everything else.
Gotcha. And thanks for the article, that explains it well. This has been one of the things that's been bothering me about possibly moving, as I really enjoy water.
I'm told there is a pretty good sized farm pond off to the West aways, and even the Cali's aren't going to be able to suck that dry....
Im more concerned about the next big earthquake if I'm being honest. It's seems we are about due for one here anytime. Bring a flashlight, batteries and a hand can opener. You'll be just fine.
Only someone who hasn't been to Portland would say that. Yeah, midwesterners have some funny idears about things out west. Pssh. I survived Mt. St. Helens. It erupted on Sunday, and my parents made me and my sister go to school on Monday morning. At least my Dad drove us instead of making us walk. My Mom filmed it. Sorry for the quality, it's old 8mm so may look a little fuzzy.
Oh yes! I was a senior in high school, I remember the day very well. See the problem is they knew Mt. St. Helens was going to erupt. October 17th 1989 at 5:04pm came without a warning, excitement filled the Bay Area as our home teams were ready to play ball! The magnitude 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake struck! Bring a flashlight, batteries and a hand can opener. I have a ton of can goods!
LOL Mt. St. Helens didn't erupt, it blew up. Half the mountain ended up in our backyards! Nobody knew that was going to happen. Besides, if I move down I'll be about a half mile from the bay, I'll never need to go to a grocery store.
You'll love living in the city! You don't need a car, something is always going on, the people are cool, it's a good place. I'm happy for you.
