I would say No Bill, depending on what the Numark does.. read on..

You could probably already record your collection to the PC.
Directly from your Turntable wouldnt go because its Phono impedance and you would for sure get a mismatch ,you need to match impedance so your Signal /Noise ratio stay low as possible. you probably have RCA out on the back of your stereo amplifier extra outputs you could directly connect those to your audio inputs on your pc that is if you have audio RCA input on your Audiocard.

All you need now is recording software that coverts your audio to digital format
Also called in the field an A/D Convertor. the A/D convertor is the most important quality it is there your analog voltage signal will be encoded to a bitstream the higher the quality of your convertors the better the s/n ratio and result of your wav file c.q mp3 file.

What I cant figure out Bill from the Numark website is if this player has a build in convertor if not then this machine is useless to you what you need then is a better audio card for your pc.
the USB connection is doing what ?

If this player has a build-in A/D convertor and the software talks over the USB cable collecting the bitstream then yes this is your best option. so all you gotta find out is will this player convert A/D over the USB cable. because if you end up connecting the RCA out (player) to the RCA in of the audio PC card you dont need this at all you have probably all the info already in your house. and recording software can be downloaded for free there are Free ware software packages out there.

You need a fast HD and big aswell if your converting to raw wav format thats 44.1Khz at 16 bits. that takes about 18mb per 1 minute of Stereo recording.

I hope it makes sense to you...

I bought one of those thingamabobs off of eBay, Klaus. Thanks for the info. Once I get this contraption, do I still need that software that was mentioned?

    thanks...

    You're very welcome, Bill :)
Well, you're gonna need some kinda software on your PC to record the incoming stream, there's a whole lot of freeware out there that should do the trick - I'll look into it.

If you have a stereo system then you didnt need to buy the impedance convertor box like you did. its basically a Z load mismatch convertor.

Running an RCA cable from the back of your hi-fi stereo installation was all you needed. unless your soundcard his 3.5 mini jack inputs then this box will be usefull. and even that will not be needed if you get adapter or a genderbender.

Hmmm... I seriously doubt a standard HiFi-System to offer an auxillary output  Most only have input connectors for devices like a turntable or a cd-player (phono-in, aux/line-in) and the only output connectors are for the speakers.

I agree, the all in one stereos usually don't have much in the way of output jacks except speakers. It's when you have pre-amp/amp combinations that you get more options.

It's really getting tecnical for me, but I probably need to clarify one point. I will be unplugging the turntable from my stereo system in the media room and moving it to my computer room, which is about 40 feet away. :ashamed001

That's what I thought Bill. It looks like you got the right thing. Now, hopefully someone can find you some decent capture software.

In that case The Klaus found you the right box and we will await for its arrival
all you need now is some freeware software to capture the audio from the record and edit them. dont do so much noise reduction or anything like that decent noise reduction is quite complex to do I love the sound of vinyl the crackling firewood feeling brings good memories and warmth.

you simply then burnd the wav file back onto CDR and done you are. if you convert it to mp3 you can have hunderds of songs on a DVD/CD then you need an mp3 cd/dvd playback able hardware.

that's what I thought when I gave you the link :D
Hang on a few more minutes, I'm now on the search for suitable software :D

    Here we go,
as it seems Audacity is about the only freeware (open source) audio editing and recording software that can perform all the neccessary tasks. Here's a link to the Wikipedia-page with links to the program and to help-files. Have fun!
