Okay, this poll is essentially taking the FOUR BASIC tools of classic wet-shaving (razor, soap, brush and aftershave) and asking YOU to rank them in descending order of how you personally view their importance in your overall enjoyment of the shaving experience. Some shavers are 'soap guys' or love collecting brushes or aftershaves. I spend (like many others) the overwhelming majority of my shaving 'budget' on razors, but then I would list soaps next, then aftershaves, and lastly, brushes. But that's me.

To save space (and choices), I've made the TOP spot on each listing choice as 'RAZOR' for the sake of simplicity. Granted, some wet-shavers may only use ONE razor yet have 100 soaps and dozens of brushes—but assuming the majority have more than one or two razors and multiples of the other tools, I've set this up to try and accommodate choices without overwhelming.

Interesting poll, it really is kind of hard to answer. In my experience, it's how the parts work together more than the individual merits.

No doubt, and theres no denying each tool is an important contributor to a solid shaving experience—BUT some aspects we may find more appealing. I love the main tool (the razor), but am also fond of the variety of soaps and fragrances.
No wrong answers as it is purely personal choice.

    That is an interesting poll.
I have one DE razor and a few straights, one brush, four soaps and one AS. I like them in that order.

I like the software almost as much as the hardware. I can't get a good shave with crappy soap so that is definitely second behind the razor.

Generally I pick my razor first, then the soap, then the brush, and the aftershave is definitely last. So I went with option 1. Interesting poll! The razor and soap are what I mull over the most. I only have a few brushes and try to rotate them around, or use the big boar on certain soaps, etc.

Wayyyyyyy too hard to answer for me, as it changes everyday according to the current AD. But I should point out that the responses are biased as they all start with "razor!" ;)

Pretend 'razor' isn't a choice and choose between the other 3.

Because the lather and brush don't stay in my mind like the razor I used, and the scent of the aftershave.

I took this before looking at ANY posts. I focused on what the most "important" things were...not what I have the most of or what I spend the most on.

Obviously, none of this could be done without a razor, hence, #1.

Little else makes sense without a soap to slide the raxor over. I put aftershave next for the skin repair, toning, and after-feel of the face. I put brushes last because you don't really need an expensive one...or even a good one. It is nice, but not necessary.

Love cheap AS. I am a technique/zone kind of shaver, so I've found many tools that work just great, but I particularly like the AS application experience. Honorable mention goes to Alum block. Fun question to consider periodically.

I am actually a razor, strop, brush, soap, aftershave guy in that order but always either a Schwarzweisskeramik or G20 scuttle so maybe the constant us scuttle. I do have a thing for my 5 main strops and the razor to be used.

When I use a straight or aggressive DE the soap is critical to a good shave. But I'm into all variables of the shave.

I voted Razor/Soap/Aftershave/Brush. I am pretty picky on my soaps, and actually had to set up a rotation to make sure they all get used regularly to keep from having them dry out. Artisan soaps are a big part of what got me into wetshaving, so they are what I look forward to the most. The aftershaves have popped up as their own AD in the last 8 months or so. Right now I am at 16 soaps, and 17 aftershaves. We won't talk about the number of razors. I have four brushes, but only use two of them. If I can sell of my badgers, I will get another one, but am pretty happy with my boar and synthetic.

Toss up for me. Between soap and AS with the brush last. I only use one brush. I have copious amounts of both soaps and aftershaves.

This is a difficult poll. I will describe my thoughts backwards (seems natural to me). Brush is last. I have several and each one performs very well. I just pick one randomly and off I go. Post shave treatments are the same...pretty stable for me: Witch Hazel and my usual coconut oil and shea butter mix...followed by a small deb of one of my ASBs. I usually select on a whim...they are all very nice. Soaps...hmmm, well, I do have a few favourites...and I do spend some time the evening before trying to select a soap for the next morning. I do enjoy a fine soap or cream.

Since I crossed over into the light of SR shaving, I have developed a new appreciation for a keen edge and fancy scales. Especially for a razor that I found in the wild that was one step away from oblivion, brought it home, restored it to its former glory, honed it and achieved a top notch shave...well, now...that is extra special! I find myself window shopping and admiring SRs more than anything.

Straight razors have to be my number one passion, soaps second, and brushes and post shave treatments follow behind.

Being of an age, I really started shaving when After Shave was not commonly available. I can quite easily give it a miss.
