The conversation in another thread went from "I have that," to "I have WHAT?" I bought this Super Speed at a second hand store for $15 with all you see here. The case and the razor were in dire need of cleaning, but came out the other end looking fine. Just that bit of plating loss on the underside.
Well, what makes a 1954 TV -- the case, or the date code? I have a Z1 SS. Is that just regular old SS, or is it an uncased TV? I'm thinking there are more Z codes floating around than V codes.
The code defines the 54 TV. Any 40's style SS with a Z-3 or Z-4 would be a TV even without the case. Of course the case helps and I'm lucky to have both a cased Z-3 and Z-4.
I really have trouble getting excited about the '54 TV because it looked exactly like the Super Speeds. At least the '58 was distinctive. HOWEVER, if the opportunity to obtain one in a case for a decent price ever arose, I would certainly snap it up.
Jim, I'd bet you have a normal flare tip Super Speed. Have a look at Guido's guide in the safety razor forum.
The Z1 is just a regular SS. I think it was either the first or second quarter of 1954 that the 40's style SS was made in regular production. AsylumGuideo should know for sure.
There are Z-1 40's SS's and Z-1 flare tips, but no Z-2 40's styles. The Z-1 was the last code for normal 40's Super Speed production, the old styles were brought back in the third and forth quarters of 1954 as the first TV specials.
Thanks. I didn't know there were z1 flare tips. I've got a z1 40's style that used to belong to my grandfather, it's a great shaver!
