I am scientifically literate, and I know that shaving doesn't affect the whiskers, but it nevertheless definitely seems that some days, more is coming off than others. Even though my beard is not heavy, I shave every day and do two passes. After a while I noticed that my beard started to be growing back rather faster. I noticed this because their was more whisker residue in the sink. Then, other days, not so much. So have others noticed differing rates of beard growth? What could account for them?
I'm not sure how truthful it is but I've seen studies that say facial hair grows faster if you reduce stress and get good sleep. So the more hair in the sink the better quality of life. Grains of salt available upon request.
I googled it, it said that for the most part, hair grows at a constant rate, takes a break then falls out. it didn't indicate what circumstances made it decide to take a rest or did It say why the hair follicle dumped the hair to grow a new one. it did say that some hair grows at different rates than others. eyelashes and brows grow notoriously slow. I always heard that shaving initiated a young man's beard to come in fuller. but the article I read said it had no effect.
My residue seems to stay the same. More when I shave every other day and less if I shave two days back to back.
Three things seem to affect my beard growth significantly. If I get a good nights sleep (7+ hours without disturbance) my beard seems to grow in fuller. Number two is stress. Having "one of those days" at word seems to decrease beard growth. Third is which blade I use in my DE razor. Blades that are very sharp (for me) seem to slow beard growth. Using a Gillette Silver Blue, or a 7 O'clock green usually means I can skip shaving the next day if I want. Blades like Derby seem to ensure that shaving will be mandatory tomorrow morning.
was going to say the same thing..have had a few friends that are barber's or hair dressers tell me this...dont know if its true or not but I have heard that from multiple people who are in the "hair" bussiness.
I remember as a kid my dad telling me this, you would think our hair would grow faster in the winter for warmth.
