Now that I have become comfortable as a DE wetshaver, I would like to purchase a razor and brush stand for my Merkur 38c and Simpson Colonel X2L Best Badger Brush. Anyone happy with a particular stand?
Wow! All those views and no replies!! You have been very helpful in the past, so I would imagine there are some positive suggestions out there. Please chime in, as someone must have found a particular stand notable!
I read this a few days back and didn't reply because I don't own a stand. I used to want one, but then I started acquiring razors and brushes and, and.... :ashamed001 ...well, everything but stands! Good luck in your search - there are many cool stands out there.
I built my own. Get a piece of 1/8th inch plywood, scrap will do, you don't need much. A piece of dowel, 1/4 inch diameter. A coping saw. About and hour or two. Cut two squares about 4x4 or 6x6 inches depending on how much room you have in your den. On one of them, center a line and then use the coping saw to remove a notch for the razor and then on the opposing side for the brush. You don't even need to measure, just use a pencil to mark where the brush will go. A tiny bit of planning will make that easy, depending on the handle of your brush. Click my den below and see mine. Not too elaborate. I finished mine with stain and some polyurethane b ut you don't even need to do that. If you do, it will add a day or two for curing, etc. Best of luck. If you have any questions, if you decide to attempt this, just msg me and I'll be more than happy to help.
Bob, Thanks for your picture of the stand for brush and razor! You hae inspired me to make one myself!
Another home made stand, made from a wire hanger. I wrapped the wire around a mayonnaise jar to make the base close to circular. I like it, but realize it might look cheesy to someone else. Just presented as an idea.
I bought this one a while back and it works well. A good buy as well. http://shaveabuck.com/cart/stainless-steel-shave-stand-501-p-255.html
I was poking around in the dens and saw someone hanging their brushes from the underneath side of a shelf using velcro...so I totally stole that idea. My razors get dipped in alcohol after rinsing and then just laid on top of the shelf....it is working for me that way and I am not taking up space on the counter for the razors. If I only had one brush and one razor then I maybe would use a stand. Once I got the RAD I figured that a stand was not going to work for me. However; I am looking at getting a test tube rack to store the razors in. My wife works at a plasma collection center and has access to surplus racks.
I've also seen pipe racks used for razors, you can generally find pipe racks for $10 or so in antique/thrift stores. Unfortunately, all of my pipe racks are full of pipes (my hidden AD)
I have two these in the mattte black finish, quite stylish: http://www.shoeboxshaveshop.com/omega-206--razor-and-brush-stand---choose-gold-or-chr206.html
Someone sent me these images of a razor stand they asked if I could make. It looks very rustic to say the least.
I wanted to get a shave stand for the longest time, but I could never find one that I liked. Today while in a kitchen supply store I came across a nice bamboo cutting board. Naturally this isn't meant for shaving but I really like how it looked. Ended up buying it and now I keep it on my dresser with my shave stuff laid out on it. I know this doesn't work for most of you since your collection is huge. I took a pic of the board with my stuff for the shave of the day today so check it out if your interested.
Pipe racks as stands. Some examples of pipe racks used as razor stands. I don't smoke, these were all bought for their current purpose. It's interesting how the photos show up water spots on the razors which are almost invisible to the naked eye under normal light. I'll have to go through and clean a bunch of these.
I'm going through the same thing now, looking for a stand, as there are so many it is hard to decide on which to go with.
Lot of good products out there. Stands have come a long way. Just be careful to get something weighted at the base so it does not tip over easy. Also be certain the bottom is lined with felt or something similar if the product is steel so as not to cause rust on the vanity.
