What is the key on getting the razor at the proper angle? What should I be looking for or feeling for the first time I shave?
I'm no expert, in fact, I'm still learning myself. I assume this is for a double edge safety razor as the same thing doesn't work with a straight. Here's what I've learned: Hold the razor with the head parallel to the floor, then rotate the razor up until you feel/hear the blade start to cut hair. That way you should prevent razor burn and begin to feel the correct blade angle. You can then vary the angle until you achieve the best shave with that particular razor. Keep in mind too, that if you switch razors the angle may change as well. Keep experimenting! You'll get it.
I personally dont know anything about angles. I just wing it. I guess you develop a feel for it. but one thing I do know is to take it easy and dont use too much pressure. youll get the hang of it.
If you haven't already done so, have a look at the Shave School Master Sticky List, and be sure to watch Mantics videos, he has a video that includes how to find the correct angle to shave at.
