I am having some trouble with razor bumps on my neck, and acne on my face. I have tried face washes, and those just seem to work. I have gone to a dermatologist, and the tetracycline just doesn't work either. Any help? I have very sensitive skin. I haven't tried ProActive...perhaps I'll give that a go. I have stopped shaving for now, trying to give my skin a break and let it heal for a while. Any natural oils or soaps that could help a sensitive skin person with acne and razor bumps? Does anyone else have this problem?
I'm very prone to razor bumps on my neck line and stumbled on an answer for me a couple of weeks ago. My skin seems to be very sensitive to my blade selection, Voskhods have proven themselves to be my first choice while I'll try my Red IP's next week and see how that goes. Lord blades give me razor bumps with every shave it seems and I've always liked them so that's a bummer. This is an ongoing expieriment so I'll be trying to find other blades that work for me. Bump Patrol has always worked well for me healing razor bumps, but you have to stop what your doing to yourself that gives bumps in the first place. For me that is atg passes and xtg passes along the neck line are strictly forbidden, wtg only. Don't know what else to say but getting rid of those pesky suckers is where that familiar YMMV thing comes into play unfortunately, you just got to expieriment and find what works for your situation.
Yeah, I hear you. I am a bit of a perfectionist, and I hate the feeling of scratchy stubble, so I feel I HAVE to go atg and wtg. And I use a straight razor...Life isn't fair lol. Bump Patrol just might be my answer.
Ease off - just for a few days - give your face time to recover before skinning it again. Not what you want to hear, I know but if shaving WTG/XTG/ATG every day causes you issues, you are not going to solve them by adding more products and continuing to plough the same furrow - if you were banging your head off a brick wall, adding a hard hat might make a slight difference, but ultimately it's still good when it stops.
Yeah, I understand. I will experiment for sure, but it will probably come down to wtg, and that is it. XTG and ATG is fine on my face, but my neck wtg will be the only way to go. I haven't shaved since Tuesday, and the bumps are still there. I will give it a couple of more days, then go back to shaving it. I need to find a good medication or something that will fix it.
Dan......I too get the occasional ingrown hair on my neck. I'm not like you though, I cannot go ATG for any reason and don't mind the very little stubble feel, it can't be seen anyways. What I do when I get a few ingrowns is use the "Bump Fighter" razor. I picked one up at Walmart and it works WONDERS!!! There is a very thin guard that keeps the razor blade just very slightly above the skin, preventing a very close shave that helps significantly with razor bumps. Just go get one and you can thank me later! They really do work. It is a very different kind of shave; both in feel and sound. Nate
I love that razor!! I can actually do 4 passes with them wtg, xtg, xtg, atg and get as close if not a little closer than my DE with 2 passes. The blades can also last for a couple of months since it just cuts hair and doesn't exfoliate plowing off the top layer of skin. Only problem is that it's not as fun or challenging as a DE.
Can't say much about the razor bumps but for the acne bit you could try http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/ Worked for me. Good luck, Michael
Exfoliate often the face with loccitane juniper bark scrub. Change your diet also. More fish and vegetables and less carbohydrates. Clean your face when sweats with a kleanex.
I think you're right. I should change my diet for less carbs. Right now, I do eat lots of carbs and sugars...Cutting that out might help.
Michael, How long was it before you saw results? I just started using this great method, and my face FEELS good. I am just wondering about results.
For me it was about 3 weeks I guess. Then about 6-7 before I was really cleared up. I had found that wetshaving helped my cheeks and neck but my forehead was still a disaster area and that's when someone posted the link on another shave site. So after a little research I bought the oils and dove in. I had actually gone with a mix of Sweet almond, Grapeseed, Castor and Tea Tree oils mixed into a 4oz amber Boston round with dropper top. I've recently decided to change and eliminate the Almond, use more Grapeseed and add a small amount of Emu oil. If you can stand the Tea Tree it's a great oil as it's naturally disinfecting and as the pores are opened up it'll help to limit any bacterial build up. Play with how often you're able to do it as well. 6 weeks ago I got a kidney transplant from my kid sister, up till then I was doing dialysis wich was causing me loads of physical stress and increasing the acne issue. I was using the OCM DAILY. It's generally not recommended because it can really dry out your skin but with as much "gunk" as my pores were producing at the time it was the only way I could maintain even semi-clear skin. Now I'm too a point where I can do about 3x a week for maintenence. Good luck, Michael
What razor do/did you use? I would definitely try a hot towel first and use as much unscented stuff as possible. A good natural olive oil soap may agree with your skin. Don't 'scrub' your face with a wash cloth or towel. Good luck.
