I have a near mint 1920’s Gillette Tuckaway gold; complete with case, bank, cloth case, instructions and box(broken). The head does not have a mark of use on it. Unfortunately there are two tiny hairline cracks in the central tube of the handle where the press-fit ends attach. These don’t effect performance, but I was wondering if anyone can recommend a replacement handle. I’d like to use the razor and let the original handle enjoy its golden years.
The best bet would be Razoremporium handle replacement. They might even coat them there also if you desire that feature. https://www.razoremporium.com/gille...versally-threaded-solid-brass-factory-nickel/ Have some great shaves!
If you're looking for a Gillette full size handle, or even a short travel one, you can find razors at good prices. Just do some searching at Ebay.
There is a fix, and I've done it, in the past. Take the handle off, sand down the post, that the handle is pressed onto, lightly. Put some epoxy along the post, and in the crack. Press onto the post, and lightly clamp the handle, near the crack, and post. It might take a few clamps. Wipe any epoxy off, immediately. Let it cure a few days. It should be fixed. Now, for very bad cracks, others have done the exact same, except they fit a dowel, either aluminum, or wooden, inside the handle, before the clamping down. It needs to be a very snug fit, inside the handle, but not so snug as to prevent the closure of the cracks. I hope this helps. ..
Not that I am a fan of his, but ikon made a tuckaway handle. I have one and like it. https://shavenation.com/products/ikon-tuck-away-66mm-travel-safety-razor-handle
