I found this 1979, date code Z3, Super Adjustable at a Salvation Army thrift store for $3, and as you can see, some nitwit tried to open it with a pair of pliers or something because it was stuck closed. I stood it up in a glass that I filled with soapy water and let it set overnight and sure enough, the next morning it opened and closed properly and the adjustment knob worked as it should. This is the first later model SA with the plastic base plate that I've found in the wild . Here's a few before pictures to show how the handle looked, and also most of the paint was missing from the numbers. I taped up the head and hit it with four coats of Testors gloss black spray paint spread out over several days to give each coat time to dry thoroughly. I then repainted the numbers with Testors gloss black paint. When I was finished painting it I used a very small jewelers screwdriver to remove the paint from the two metal bands around the handle. Here's some pictures of what I ended up with, I think it's a very good looking $3 razor that I invested maybe an hour total of time in.
That's pretty darned cool. Looks like the head and adjust mechanism are in good shape. Should provide years of service. Good job!
This is awesome. I just picked up an 84 SA. This has given me an idea of where to start my restoration efforts. Great thread!
