I haven't had much luck lately finding any brushes until I found this one at an antique store for $4 recently. The bottom is an interesting color, it appears to be brown but in certain light conditions it almost has a purple tint to it. I don't know if it has faded over the years or if this is its original color. The handle has a few dings in it that I couldn't get out, but that just gives it a little character! Here it is with its new TGN Best Badger knot, some polishing and a little fresh paint. I now have three similar models with boar, badger and synthetic knots.
I've only ever seen the red and blue ones. Do they have a whole range of colors? Looks like a nice set.
That is my school colors! The search begins......... Very nice! BTW...I just ordered my first knot, What do you use to glue them in?
I personally used epoxy. However the handle was aluminum billet so I wanted to make sure it would stay in well. Also, it wouldn't be that hard to clean off of aluminum. I've not done a wood one yet.
Thanks everyone. It was kind of cool finding the three different colors locally, just by pure luck. I've seen them with a green base on the bay, but haven't found one locally. Yet. Most guys prefer epoxy, but I use clear silicone adhesive. It's easier to clean up in case some gets on the knot, it dries much slower which gives you time to make slight adjustments to make sure the knot is straight. And, like Jeff said, it's easy to remove the knot if you decide to. I have removed one knot and put it in a different handle because I wasn't satisfied with how it looked, as can be seen in THIS THREAD That can't be done with epoxy. I have also adjusted the loft on two brushes. One other thing you can do with silicone adhesive is set the knot with a very small amount and test the loft to see if it's how you want it and if it is, then you can pull the knot and add more.
