i picked up this Anchorset brush the other day with restoration in mind. I had the knot cut that night, but didn't have access to the proper tools to completely remove the knot until today. When I did, I found this:

There's a metal ring inside that is glued to the inner walls of the handle. How many of you have experienced this and how did you remove it?

My problem with the ring staying is 2 fold: 1) it makes the 30mm hole 29mm and I have a 29mm knot on the way for it and 2) since sealing it would make the hole even smaller, I'm afraid the ring will rust with exposure to water. Help!!

It sounds like it is time to buy a Dremel. It's a good tool to have on hand. You can "grind down" the ring and then seal it. Good luck.

I've got a dremel, I need to see if I have a grinding wheel. It's thin enough I may just see if I can cut it and remove it.

Are you sure the walls of the handle will hood up after you remove the ring? Those walls lokkk pretty thin.

how bout using a thread die. put it in, gently turn and apply pressure. maybe the glue will give while the tool bites into ring..
    worst case, the handle splits.
or you get a threaded ring.
or glue gives and ring comes out.
    good luck d

At this point, I'm just going to wait for the knot to get here and see how it fits. Now comes the worst part: waiting. It's coming from China (ace shaving)

I have the same problem with a brush I am restoring and will end up doing the same as you, order a knot and check fit. I find good prices for knots on Aliexpress.com.

First make a try with a heat gun,if is softens easily you can pull it out easily but be aware for the rim of the handle
Some of them due to their material won't withstand the head and maybe they deformed.
A lathe machine can do it in few seconds or a Dremel and the proper bits in few minutes.
