I had read a post on TSD about someone using a rubber stamp rack to hold their brushes, razors, etc. I really liked the idea, so I decided to go hunt one down on the bay. I didn't go all out in restoring it, it was in pretty rough shape. Gave it a sanding, and a simple paint job. Let me know what you guys think. Best Regards
Like it a lot. When you're ready to shave you can play "Wheel of Shave" and spin it to randomly select your razor of the day
I have only had it for about a week, and already I am saying to myself I should have bought the one with 8 holders instead of 6, but the 8 stamp was a bit to big in diameter for my counter space. One or two more brushes and I will be full up! I have seen a three tiered set up that will hold something like 18 to 24. That would be the "Wheel of Shave...EXTREME!!"
Those former 'stamp' holders do come in handy, that's for sure. Mine hold six—which is already too small—but as you discovered, the 8-stamp holder has too large a footprint, so for my purposes, the sixer is fine. I left mine the natural 'bronze' finish, but covered the ends of the 'brush' holders with black PlastiDip to prevent scratching the brush handles. You can see part of my stand in the upper right portion of this image:
Do you know if that Plastidip comes in different colors by any chance? I used electrical shrink tubing for mine, but that dip might look pretty cool
Yes it does. You can check online. My local hardware store only had black, which was okay for my use.
I also did the plastidip on the tips after scratching a couple of my brush handles. It's good stuff, think i ended up doing 3-4 coats. Love mine, and get complements on it by house guests all the time. I rotate it every time I use a brush, and the next brush faces out for tomorrow.
I though about going all polished metal. Almost a chrome look, but this was definitely more expedient and I think it gives it a barbershop sort of style.
One note regarding the carousels: These were not intended for use in a wet environment ('wet' shaving), so you'll need to make sure there is no exposed or unpainted metal on the base as they WILL begin to rust if one isn't careful.
