I was drooling a fair bit over this rare Rubberset 398 brush...apparently so did others..as it ended at $109
Way less than 107 dollars...but I do envy the guy who got it. I think I've only ever seen two. How about you @bladeshark ?
The black information plate on the base is very unique..never seen that design on any other Rubbersets.
Btw, if you are not aware of it - Mr @bladeshark maintains THE online reference site for vintage brushes - with a strong focus on Rubbersets - the OSSB. Check it out!
Wow! For that kind of money you could, probably, get one of the brush artisans to turn you one in the exact model and colours and even set a TGN knot in it!
I'd rather put a good knot in it The two TGNs I have are the only knots I have that shed like crazy. And, there is of course a collectors value accounted for as well. A very rare model from a company that produced thousands upon thousands of brushes. Not sure a current artisan could (or more likely 'would') make one looking at the inlaid black into the handle.
Btw, forgot to mention - if you can find an artisan that would turn an identical replica of this handle for $100 I might be interested
If you look at the handle, it's clearly just a hexagon shape running down through the center of the brush, with a butterscotch pour around the outside, then lathe turned. I imagine it would be pretty easy to replicate. It would look really cool with a piece of stainless hexagon bar stock, though I'm not sure how easy it would be to turn a piece of mixed media like that.
