I'm soon running out of Astra blades. I have maybe 15-20 blades left. That's 40 shaves. I have been using other blades to see if I find one with an advantage to the Astra as I sometimes feel it struggles around the chin. They always give me good shaves, and are definitely my Go2. It's just that little detail that it sometimes tugs where my facial hair is the coarsest. I thought the Wilkinson sword was a likely candidate, it's a bit tuggy on the first shave but shave no 2&3. I thought it was the coating or something. Then I realized that it was only good in my Merkur 37c. I have tried a few RUSSIAN blades and for some reason they don't work for me. They skip a lot or just don't cut at all. I thought it was a faulty tuck of blades, but what are the chances that 4-5 tucks of russian brand of blades from different? makers are all faulty. There is one or two more Russian blades to try after that I'm either PIFing them or storing them for another time. I have a few more blades to try, but I'm not sure I will have the time. I didn't want to buy another 100 pack of Astra SP, I wanted to find another better blade, but I might have to. It's not really a loss, it's a minor detail thing. So I'm not throwing money away. I was just hoping I would find another good blade until now.
Have you ever tried Polsilver Super Iridiums or Vikings Sword blades out of Israel? The VS's work great for me and only cost a bit more than the Astra SP's.
I have, they are very good. But based in the us =/ not a good deal for me. I found a seller once with a good price. I might look into that blade again =) I have some red personnas im gonna try
I have been afraid to try Polsilver as they are pretty expensive. I have bunch of different blades, but VS are not amoung them. I might try it.
I like Astra blades as they give me a close and comfortable shave. I plan on buying more when I deplete some of my existing stock. I find them to be much like the personna lab blues. I have about 500 of those babies. So, if you really like Astras, keep 'em on your "to buy" list.
That's cool. I never really compared them to the lab blue. You have a point there. 500 lab blues? Why no use those before getting Astras?
I'm gonna revisit my blade sampler and see if I can find a good blade there. I have a few I have received from friends too. I'm gonna experiment a little. If I don't find any other blades I will get some more Astras. But I have about 40 Astra shaves. Before I need more
I always come back to the Astras. The 7 O'clock Yellows were a nice second. Don't remember anything special about the Blacks.
I find the gillette silver blues to be compatible, much more so than the 7oclock blacks. If you want I can send you a few packs of selected blades. Including the polsilver blade. It is a pretty decent shaver. I did not like them at first, but they grew on me and are now in my top five list
I have some gillette silver blue. They are next in the line to try. I thank you for the offer, but I have almost 10 different blades to try. I'll have my hands full for sure!
