Hello all! This is my first post on the Shave Den. First, let me say that I couldn't be happier about switching from an electric razor/Mach 3 to a double edge. I have finally got shaving with the grain and against the grain down with no knicks or razor burn. However, I do have a slight problem. When I shave it feels like the razor is pulling my facial hair. It is cutting it, but especially around my chin and mouth, it is kinda painful. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Thanks.

Hi, what brand blade are you using. everyone has different hair thickness. so you may want a sharper blade. I use 7 O'clock Yellows, Feather, and Iridium Super. I have tried others but they either pull my hair or don't leave my neck very clean.

Well, I have a Merkur Heavy Duty DE. It's the blades that came with it. The package has Merkur Super Platinum written on it.

Welcome to TSD Cole! This is the best wet shave board on the planet!

Without knowing more about your gear and prep, I would say that you may have a blade issue, or your later is not dialed in properly.

Tell us more about your gear and prep and we can give you some pointers to get you fixed up.

Ah, there may be the problem. The Merkur blades have a few fans, but most people ditch them straight away. Pick up a blade sampler for sure!

    First, welcome to the Den.

Go grab a cold one, get some snacks, make yourself comfy, then click here.

Check link 5 & 8 about blades. Sample packs are the way to go.

    Have fun!

Get a blade sampler, plenty of good vendors on this board for that.

While you're waiting arrival of the sampler, get yourself down to Walmart and pick up a pack of the Wilkinson blades in the shaving section. I find them smooth and comfortable, hope you will too.

Thanks alot for the info guys. Yeah, I was thinking about ordering some feather blades, but I think I will try the sampler pack to see what I like the best. Oh and thanks Poppi, I'll try those while I'm waiting. By the way, this is a pretty cool website.

You can get DE blades at Walmart and most times at you local supermarket (same display that they sell the cartridge blades) to tide you over until you pick and wait for delivery of you sampler packs. Merkur blades should be outlawed IMHO. AND, welcome aboard the Den!
