Does anyone here actually sanitize their sink prior to using it for shaving? The reason I ask is that im kind of a germ freak and the thought of cleaning my razor off in a sink that various other people wash their dirty hands and spit in and then putting it against my face really bothers me. So I was just curious to know if anyone cleans their sinks before shaving?
I don't bother, but it's a bit difficult for me anyway as we have a bacterial septic on our property and most disinfectants are a no no down the sink (we can't even use Listerine). I guess it couldn't hurt to disinfect each time though, if you're able to. James.
Soap and heat will kill 'em buggers anyway. Besides, a certain amount of germs and stuff is necessary to keep you immune system busy and running. I you live in too sterile conditions your immune system kinda degrades and you're gonna be sick from every little bugger invading your body. Just my .02
Klaus makes a good point, im a bacterial freak aswell but I dont bother sanitizing the sink each time. im NOT filling it with water to dip my razor in water or my face in it. I rinse of the razor eachtime after a few strokes and after a full pass I always wash down the face with hot water, then relather etc. just make sure your brush /razor gets a good clean from time to time it builds up soap residue /water residue.
I live alone and am the only person to use my sink so it doesnt bother me that much. I'll rinse my sink down before shaving and wipe off anything that looks soap scummy. If it is really looking bad I'll give it a wipe down with those clorox disinfecting cloths. Mostly it doesnt really bother me despite me being a germ freak. The sink is generally a clean place. I do fill the sink up with water when I shave. But I also give my self my last hot face rinse right from the faucet along with my cold rinse to close my pores.
Seems a little over the top but that's just me... We all have to do what works for us. Just matters that you enjoy the shave.
I find it to be a more enjoyable experience if the sink and bathroom are clean. Crisp white shirts, just dried sheets, stuff like that but I don't obsess over the germ factor. I don't soak anything though.
I'm with you - I can't be bothered with such things. Besides a few germs are good and helps to challenge and strengthen the immune system.
Sanitizing the sink isn't something I think of... I guess I clean it reguarly, but not before/after each shave. I soak my brush in a mug and rinse under the faucet. I rarely bother about germs.. I try not to drink from the toilet bowl, but my dog gives me a kiss every now and then... and knowing what they like I probably have tasted most things
