Hello, I have been wet shaving for years and years, cos I am old...59.
Started head shaving about 4 years ago, by trial and error (a lot of error) I started using the HeadBlade Sport with HeadSlick and have found it perfect so far. However, I am keen to experience a head shave with a safety razor.
I have been looking through the forums and already have read some good advice. I am tempted to purchase a Murkur Vison 2000, it sounds a bit expensive but I may be able to convince the wife that it would be a good Christmas present for me. Anyone tried one of these razors on the dome ?

    Howdy and Welcome!

While I haven't been able to convince my wife to "let" me shave my head yet, there are plenty of folks on here who do.
Some use DE, some use disposables, some use the HeadBlade.

My friend Micah (Micah1_8 here at TSD) uses the HeadBlade Sport most of the time, and has dabbled with using DE on his dome a few times, but still prefers the HB.
It seems that using a DE on the head would take a lot more practice than on the face, at least to me it does, but I look forward to trying it when that day comes....and at the rate my cranial follicles are releasing their tenants naturally, that probably won't be too long away :D

    Good luck!

you're right, I did forget to include straights :ashamed001
but, in my defense, I haven't personally read of anyone using them, though I don't at all doubt there are some who do
there are probably some who use SE's, too

    First, Welcome to TSD
    Second, I dig Satriani too
Third, I've been known to shave my spud with safety razors (both single edge and double edge). In fact at least once a week I "get my hair did" with whatever razor is up for that day. When I first decided to try a safety razor on my head, my choices were pretty limited. I had a Gem Micromatic and a Gillette Slim Adjustable. The first ever head shave with a safety razor was with an open comb Gem Micromatic. I probably would not endorse this razor for your first few efforts. Despite being a fantastic face razor, the broken terrain of my nugget didn't seem to agree with the uber aggressive Micromatic. For quite a long time after that, the Gillette Slim Adjustable was my head razor of choice. It was much, much less aggressive and seemed much more nimble in rough terrain.

Not surprisingly the rotation grew. Antique shop score here, ebay find there, and a "Hey Dude, you wanna buy this razor?" and I had a respectable rotation. The Gillette Slim Adjustable and my 3 piece Tech are both very mild shavers. Gem 1912's and Lather Catchers are probably the best mix of aggressive and comfortable.

Since you're a long time wetshaver, I won't bore you with the details. All the techniques you use on your face probably apply to your head. Just take your time and enjoy it. No need to be scared but I must confess that the "blind" part of the shave (starting the razor on the back of your neck) kind of freaked me out at first. Take your time and pay attention, you'll do great. A BBS dome is tough to beat.

Can't help with the dome shave question - like Jim, my wife would not tolerate it - at least not yet.

    Neck Bend

    Thanks for the advice 1OldGI.
I agree about the "blind" terror.....starting at the back of the neck.
I lost loads of blood on this, however I have found that if I (no laughing !!) bend my head over almost level to chest it avoids the gruesome cuts.
Well it has worked so far, it must be that it pulls the skin on my neck a bit tighter ???
Joe Satriani is my hero (well that is second only to Jimi Hendrix of course).
I have yet to find the exact type of shades that he is currently wearing to complete my "Joe Look".
Great to hear from you guys in the USA, gives an old Brit guy a real kick.
