Just a warning to fellow members. I have a WTB post for an English flat bottom tech. I have had 2 newly created profiles reach out to me. Both with pictures pulled from the internet and wanting me to send money thru PayPal family and friends or thru cash app. Refused to use PayPal goods and services and obvious scammers. Both have been weeks apart. I have reported them but plz be careful with your WTB posts. Seems trolls are lurking around looking for a quick scam. Good luck out there and happy shaves.
I always use google's image search. Is this one any better? I've seen this in my other hobbies, which have an even smaller niche. I wonder why scammers would target us when there are bigger fish to fry? It could be that they are also hobbyists, but have now moved to the dark side.
I was going to suggest how I would do it, but then I realized I might be giving the scammers ideas. Perhaps it's reverse psychology -- it can't be a scam, lest they would be claining they're the IRS or asking for my SS#. I got an email the other day asking me to verify my SS payment amount or something like that -- but I don't receive SS yet and have a few more years to go until I do.
Maybe it's the same reverse image search. Maybe it just seems more private to me than the Google one. As far as scammers targeting us, I agree. What a small market to go after, especially after the word gets out. They couldn't get more than 2 or 3 people before everyone catches on.
Yeah the price of most razors in this hobby seems like it wouldn't be worth the effort to scam someone out of.
These scammers are relentless. I and the other mods at TSN dealt with unscrupulous scoundrels multiple times a week.
Agreed. The moderators here at The Shave Den do fabulous work. Kudos to them! Since becoming more active at TSD I’ve found it a friendly and mellow place to be. It’s interesting to note the subtle differences in the general vibe at the various shave fora. In my experience moderating an internet forum is generally a thankless job. Joseph @Primotenore gets a grateful public nod here as someone who graciously offered kind words when I joined the moderation team at The Shave Nook. Remained in that capacity for about two years, before its untimely passing. Lemmetellya… the people who were members there before I joined had vast, vast experience. Decades. I learned so very much from them. To The Shave Nook, may it rest in peace.
So all those young ladies aren't real??? They really don't want an old guy to friend them on Facebook? Ha ha ha
