Those of you who make soaps or have experience with essential oils: Can I use EO to make my unscented witch hazel smell better? I like the way it works, just not the way it smells, and none of my local places carries scented WH. Thanks for your help!
I do not have the experience that you inquired about. However, I do know that you can add small amounts of cologne or aftershave to tone down the scent of the W/H. Usually the generic W/H that I use dries off to zero smell. But, for me, since I added alum powder to my W/H, I wash it off once it has dried down.
I don't see why not, assuming your face works with the EO... Have you tried ordering Thayer's scented witch hazel by chance?
I've skimmed several threads about this topic at B&B, can't remember any of the specific results, but I know folks have mixed it with essential oils, fragrance oils, and store brand aftershaves. Most folks just get used to it and end up liking it, though. If I recall, Thayers is the most widely accepted as the best smelling/least offensive smelling witch hazel, though I've never tried it, I don't see it for sale anywhere in my neck of the woods, either, however I have been awfully tempted to order this for awhile: Thayers Witch Hazel Sampler Package
Well if you have a Whole Foods, or Greenlife as I guess its called in TN, they should carry it, if you haven't checked....
iherb sells it online, there used to be a code BEV426 which gets you $5 off, don't know if it still works, it did when I purchased some in May. http://www.iherb.com/Thayers
OK, thanks y'all! I'll probably try scenting some with cologne or AS first, then move on to EO if that doesn't work. I've got a natural foods market near my house and an Earth Fair Grocery Store as well, so I should be able to an EO if I want to. I haven't tried any of the Thayers, but that may be in my future as I'm getting ready to make a shave stuff order.
Bill, never would that thought of GNC! Thanks JoAnna, thanks for the offer, but cucumber just doesn't sound like its up my alley!
A real simple solution is putting a dash of aftershave in your hand with a dash of witch hazel then applying. The legend Clubman Rob quoted a Pinaud pamphlet that suggested barbers put a dash each of Pinaud Bay Rum and WH together for freshly shaven customers. A simple barber back bar trick that works. In the past there was a small forum war over whether or not Thayers is technically a true witch hazel , I think the naysayers won that one.
I have a really thick ASB called Boots [a large chemist brand in the UK] Freshwood and I added witch hazel and menthol crystals to it to make a bit more runny and cooling and it works a treat. T
