I have an E3 be delivered soon, and now you guys have me looking at Gem SE razors. From a greenhorn's eye, the E3 looks more "elegant". The Gem looks like a beast.

Does one shave better than the other?

Is there a particular Gem model that is/was more popular than the other models? Thanks.

My personal favorites are the Damaskeene and the Clog-Pruf. But it's hard to go wrong with any of them.

The 1924, but like the MM you really need to train up to it.

Gem & Schick brands are great and I use them often over a year of daily shaving. Personally I like the Gem (ASR) razors a little more and easy to use. Gem was way a head of other razor manufactures IMO and Schick came along with a nimbler razor that works on same principles. Once you use a Gem razor enough or ASR razors it just seems to perform excellent, the width of Gem blade and a Gillette standard blade are very similar. I find Gem blades easier to handle than DE blades and Schick injector blades are reasonably safe when using the injector cartridge, when handling spent injector blades when laying flat on a surface can be a troublesome sometimes but nothing drastic with a little care.

Once you reach a certain skill level in shaving, there is no 'better' or 'worse,' only 'different.' the route you seem to have chosen, trying many different types of razor designs, will get you there much faster than most people.

Just strap in and enjoy the ride.

I still recommend that you find yourself an adjustable razor, preferably a Gillette. Most people here have used one, so when you figure out what setting you like, it will give us a reference point for your preference. That will make it easier to recommend different razor models to you, since we'll have a better understanding of what level of aggression you prefer in a razor.

That is a good suggestion for finding a great adjustable to dial in a preference. I have a few adjustable razors like the Gillette slim and Fatboy and they work Great. I also have a Yaqi TFC and based on the famous French Gibbs adjustable design but has incorporated a similar DE 89 head or Merkur 34C head for fine shaving + affordable.

An adjustable is next on the list, then that will be it for awhile.

I could easily rationale my continued buying, but I don't think it's necessary here.
