Scrubbing Bubbles

I know this product has been mentioned before for cleaning vintage razors, but I think it bears repeating. I have always been a fan of the "boil method" until the other day, when, after boiling a razor, still saw patina in the crevices and crud in the hollow of the TTO knob. I decided to give Scrubbing Bubbles a whirl for the first time, and I am now a complete and total convert! This stuff is absolutely amazing at removing all traces of hidden and surface gunk! I may still boil really nasty-looking razors, but I will definitely follow-up with Scrubbing Bubbles.

By the way, the store brands are the same thing for less!

 

i concur. SB works wonders.

 

It is excellent at getting rid of built up soap scum on the bottom of my razors. Every few weeks, I will give it a little shot and pretty them up a bit. Good stuff.

 

Most of the time I use "Scrubbing Bubbles" followed by an ultrasonic cleaning.

 

I noticed there's a couple different kinds, which do you all use?

The one I use is the one that is in an aerosol can and it shoots out thick foamy goodness (makes me think it's doing something, which it is).

 

My steps for cleaning.

1. Toothbrush an infant one that is really soft w/toothpaste.
2. Hot water rinse
3. Scrubbing bubbles
4. Warm Water rinse
5. Neverdull
6.Warm water rinse
7. Up to 1hr in Barbicide.
8. Cold water rinse and a soft towel.

I resisted using SB for months and consequently made far more work for myself than needed. I do still boil the cruddy ones but SB is nearly a one stop cleaning regiment for lightly soiled razors.

This is the one I use.

It was the first SB picture I could find, but as it so happens that exact razor will be up for sale today to finance another razor purchase. I must admit that worked out well.

I haven't seen Scrubbing Bubbles "over here", would it be the same as Mr Muscle?

 

And not just any Toggle. I believe that is a 5 position prototype, no?

Yep. Add another fan of SB. Makes the SS shiny and silver everytime I use it. Does Mr. Muscles kind of foam and bubble and hiss a little bit? If so then it's the same stuff.

I see, but didn't the prototypes also come in a pigskin case similar to that?

 

I was a boiler, until I found out from a TSD pal that boiling is a great way to take the gold off of certain razors.

I am a SB guy all the way. I've turned some real dawgs into decent looking shavers. For what its worth, my routine is similar to the one posted:

SB with a toothbrush

Alcohol bath

Silver polish on a terry cloth rag. I use only the kind of polish that says it can be used on Sterling silver and silver plate. I figure the silver polish may not get the "best" shine, but it is specifically designed to preserve plating which is more important to me. Terry cloth helps with crevices.

Hot water rinse

OH! My research also found that Oxi-Clean (sodium percarbonate or sodium perborate) will turn aluminum handles black, which can be restored only with a polish specifically designed for aluminum. The recommendation I found was to use a polish called Wenol or Simichrome, which cannot be used on plated or colored metal items.

 

Yes you are correct about that. I think this is a Chrome Toggle case but it came with a Slim. I was just taking two pictures at once with the cleaning stuff for one thread and the Toggle/case for another and to answer a question I think Rodd asked.

Chris, how does the never dull work compared to maas? Can it be used on gold? What is up with the pens? I need to find a more efficient way of cleaning mine
