I have found that I enjoy the melt and pour soaps in the summer months as they feel light and can be made with floral, citrus, and other scents I typically associate with the dog days of summer. Also, they seem to offer just the right amount of skin care for the summer months. Along the same lines, I prefer tallow based soaps in winter, as I find them rich and very conditioning in the cold Chicago winter months. An exception is the TSD Lanolin Soap, which is perfect skin care all year long! I have discussed this theory with DSLazar9, another Chicagoan, and he, somehow, has come to the same conclusion. Either that means that I'm not nuts, or that we are both nuts! Anyway, have you found that you prefer a soap/cream product based on season?
I am not a seasonal soap user, but I can tell you for certain that I have become a face lathering junkie that prefers tallow based soaps almost exclusivly.
Highs here are north of 115 so I'm partial to menthol in the summer TSD sub-zero cream is great this time of year.
I know some folks have their soap/cream scents sorted for seasonal use. I don't. First I've heard of seasonal use based on the ingredients of a soap.
I have a small rotation of soap that I use pretty much year round. I do break out some mentholated products during the summer.
Not me. I'm of the opinion that tallow-based or not is an artificial delineation. I am confident that if I made a lather for you from one of my veggie soaps or one of my tallow soaps and asked you to tell me which is was, you wouldn't be able to discern a difference. Your guess would be no better than chance. However, it should be noted that I don't use any melt-and-pour type "glycerin soaps" at all.
Maybe I started doing this because I have melt and pour soaps in lilac, iced lilac, lilac and lavender, iced grapefruit, Iced Energy, cedar wood, Rose Ice, Lemongrass-Ylang Ylang, Cedar-Patchouli, and Bay Rum. I probably associate the floral and citrus scents with summer more than the soap ingredients.
I'm not a seasonal soap user, although I tend to use mentholated products less frequently in the Winter. Glycerine or tallow based, whatever works gets jammed in the ol' shave mug and used. In my experience, both tallow and glycerine soaps can be outstanding.
