Allright guys, today I had my second DE shave. I rested my face a couple days after my first encounter with the improperly adjusted Merkur Vision attempt on Sunday. I can say right off the bat that it went much better! Here are some pictures to illustrate. This time my son was not available to help me with the photographs so I took them myself, not an easy task while shaving! In the beginning... Here was my face before the shave: I made a few important changes based on the responses to my previous post: 1. A Derby blade substituted the Merkur blade 2. Instead of soap, I used AOS shaving cream this time It worked a quick lather And the brush looked like a meringue lollypop I don't know if my paint job was any good... 3. This time I tried first with TAMEST setting on the Merkur Vision. I closed it completely (+V-I-S-I-O-N-), so I turned it right all the way towards the "N". The good thing is that I didn't cut or nicked me at all, the bad thing was that it didn't seem to remove any hair! Was my angle OK? 4. OK, so I lost patience and decided to go a bit too aggresive. I set the razor for the second "I" Results were noticeable! This time I got a much better shave with two passes WTG and one XTG with fewer weepers.
Ahhh, now you're gettin' it. Next time will be much better. I would suggest keeping the razor on that setting until you get a zero weeper shave, then bump it up a notch if you feel you need to, if not, and you are happy, keep it there.
Thanks, practice makes perfect Thank you guys. Actually I'll attempt to scale back further. Today I went for the second "I" in + V-I-S-I-O-N - which is mid level aggressive. Tomorrow I'll try to shave at the "O" setting to reduce hair gradually and further reduce the chance for nicks and weepers.
Hi you should not expect to remove too much hair on the with the grain pass. it does not really do anything for me. I just do across the grain and against the grain passes. you should find one setting and just stick with it. most of us don't use adjustable razors. so we get used to one setting. I wonder if having multiple settings may affect your leaning curve.
I don't know about that......:think002 The learning curve will be more difficult if you play with the settings during the shave. But this gentleman seems to be on the right path and has gotten quite a bit of helpful advice so far. And is learning from any mistakes he may be encountering. All and all, great progress, Eliut! :happy096 I have enjoyed reading and viewing both of your threads.
Thank you JoAnna! I am very humble when it comes to learning new things. People at the Shave Den have been quite helpful and I am doing my best to apply their advice. Hopefully pretty soon I'll be able to report a nick-less, perfect shave!
