Thinking of getting this brush. 50mm loft, 22mm knot and a great price.

I face lather and use soap so I think I want to get a short loft. The longer lofts seem to be messier to face lather.
The only other boar brush I have is an Omega 10005 which has a 55mm loft and 24mm knot and is doing quite well. Although I still prefer my GN Finest and best badgers in 20mm with a short loft
If you have used the 1470 or have any input I would appreciate it.

I have 1470 but have yet to include in my rotation. Will report back.

I have another with similar specs Omega 10275. Very good mid-size brush. It's plastic with acrylic handle. It produces outstanding lather be it from cream or soap. As I recall it didn't shed much either. Tips are nice and soft not too scratchy-it's not flaccid and floppy.

The Omega 10275 sounds interesting. Do you remember where you bought it?
The short loft would be good for face lathering. I was worried that with the short loft it would be scratchy. Does the 21mm knot seem big enough and is the knot pretty tightly packed?

    James,

I've been getting all my brushes from Gary at Shoe Box Shaveshop ( awesome customer service mate ) as well as few custom from my buddy.

It's tightly packed. I'll have to get back to you with regards to face lathering as I've only started this method recently. I liked it so much so that I got two.

Give me couple days mate. Thanks

I have a 1470, it is a nice little brush. It is a wee bit "soft" for my liking. If a scrubbier brush is preferred go with the 620/1520.

When you say soft is it floppy without much backbone, thin wispy hair, or is it just soft on the face but a good face latherer on stick and puck soap?

The bristles are soft on the skin. The brush does however, do well with soaps. With a 50mm loft it is not floppy but due to the soft bristles it lacks the body I prefer.

Thanks for the info. I don't think I would like that either. Guess I'll scratch the 1470 off the list.

Perhaps it's just my initial use but 1470 isn't like this. It's got great backbone. No shed whatsoever. It's first of several brushes that hasn't shed upon first usage.

Also James, I used both 1470 and 10275 today and tip softness for both are just the same. The 10275 however covered more area as it wasn't as stiff as 1470. I wouldn't say it's flaccid though.

Both brushes are fantastic latherers. I used 2 different soaps and can't really tell you which of two lathered better. As the first soap was sample from Irena at Ginger's Garden and the other was her Lime & Yuzu ( used with 10275 ).

For my first Semogue, I'm really impressed with the 1470. Craftsmanship is really well done. I've thing for wooden brushes as I've 7 including 6 customs made by buddy. The metal ringlet on neck is certainly nice touch. I reckon like my HJM brush it's to prevent water seepage in knot.

Looks can be deceiving. Take this with a talc of Clubman as mentioned I've only used 1470 today.

    I'm so confused:confused:
Guess the only way to find out is start buying some brushes:D
The only boar brush I have now is the 10005/80005, and it's a good brush but I think the loft is too long. I too like the wood handles, both for the looks and economical price. The 10005 has a really nice beechwood handle.
Thanks for all the reviews. Although I'm more knowledgeable about the different brushes I still don't have any idea which to try first. Tried the WTB on the forums and got a Semogue 1305 coming so will try that first. It still has a fairly long loft but will be a good comparison to the Omega 10005 I think. Kind of Omega vs Semogue.

I find the 1305 is firmer than the 10005. My 1305 took alot longer than my 10005 to break in.

The 1305 I am getting has been used about 14 times so it should be starting to break in. The 10005 was about the same when I got it and it did seem to be pretty good, quite a few split ends. I have used it for a couple of weeks and not noticing much of a change. It soaks really fast, I leave it soaking for about 5 min. but it seems ready to go in about 30 sec.
I also have an offer of a 1520 knot in a ever ready handle. Is the 1520 the same knot as the 620?

Yes the 620/1520 are the same knot.

I have seen pics of a custom with the 1520 knot in it. It looked good.

Probably the same one as I'm getting. It is a member of this forum and here is a picture of it.

Shaved with the 1305 this morning that I got used from another member. It's just about broken in and is pretty nice. Hard to tell if it is better than the 10005. It is a little smaller knot size, same loft, maybe a little stiffer than the 10005 but the tips are about the same softness. I think I like them both. Anxious to try the Franken Brush with the 620 knot. I should be getting it in in a couple of days.

Shaved this morning with the Franken Brush, 620/1520 knot and ever ready handle. Pretty good but my favorite boar is still the Omega 10005. Might have a Omega 10029, Baby Pro, coming. It is a 23mm blonde boar knot with 50mm loft and 53mm base. Sounds about right, a little shorter loft than the 10005. I think I like the Omega bristles a little better than the Semogue. The Semogue seem to be a coarser bristle and almost too springy? JMHO
