I'm only giving yesterday's a half point for using Fusion gel. So far away from what I got today it shouldn't count at all. Razor was the 1950 SS. it's a little less pretty than the 1949, but still in fine mechanical shape. Since the old Blue Blade dispenser still had multiple blades left, I decided to go with the traditional partner of the razor. The blade looked good. No rust. Proceeding as planned. The gel gave quite a bit of lather, but it felt dry. Even on my just out of the shower face. The shave was passable, but not all that close. Not even with three passes. (granted, all were WTG) Today, I switch to C.O. Bigelow cream and brush. Slick. Beats up the gel, takes it's lunch money, then goes and beats up gel's dad. Not as thick when on my face, but much more comfortable and lubricating. I went to a sinkful of hot water instead of running hot water so I could use the sound of the blade to help find the proper angle. After just a few strokes, it seemed that my hand already knew which way to go, like I've done this many times before. I had some weepers on my neck yesterday with the gel. Virtually none this morning. I felt confident enough on today's third pass to go ATG. Results were nothing short of WOW. This is with a 60 year old uncoated blade, mind you. Neck could be a little better, but that will come with time and a better blade. tl;dr: 60 year old razor with fresh but still 60 year old blade, paired with tubed cream and brush kickd the butt of overpriced cartridge and canned goo.
