Thanks for the articles, I was worried it would be written in difficult language.

I'm glad you're getting better and it's cool that your handling this illness maturely and using it to educate us =)

Very glad you're getting better! I was already missing you!

When reading the articles I realized I've had the condition as well several times. Three times, same leg each 4 jears in between. Can't remember what the doc called it then. The first time the doc chided me for not coming in earlier. It started on a Friday. I didn't know yet what it was and thought it would go away. It didn't of course. I didn't want to disturb the doc in the weekend beacuse I thought it wasn't that bad. So I came in on Monday with a thick, red and hot lower leg. I should have visited the doc on Saturday, of course. Next times I didn't wait as long!

Anyways. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Prayers enclosed.

Glad you're back, glad you're better and glad your shaven, Gary!

If I may suggest it, because even if it won't help it won't hurt either, I am a convinced from personal experience of the antibac properties of good quality coconut oil, like Spectrum. The girls and wife are sick with the cough crud that's going around here (an unexpected strain of pertussis in a few schools, oddly enough), so I'm going on the C.O. this weekend.

Be well, and yay for the Trac II! I knew that's what you'd start out with. ;)

Thanks! I understand what you went through, because I should have gone to the Emergency Room the very first time instead of waiting a day and going to my personal physician. I had edema in the past and I thought it was another outbreak of that. It was much worse and I had a much weaker antibiotic given to me that did no good against this because it was a resistant strain of bacteria.

To all who might read or reread this. If you have a red or swollen extremity and a fever, get to the Emergency Room rather than waiting an extra day. They can (state can not necessarily will) give IV antibiotics that can start working much quicker and help your Primary Physician with tools to help combat this at a much higher level.

Glad to have you back and that you are on the mend. Even on non-shaving related topics, you continue to provide the Den with sage advice.

Gary, glad to hear you are home, and doing better. Men can be stubborn, we don't ask for directions.
Thank you for bringing not only Cellulitis to our attention, this also has opened the importance of yearly checkups.

Glad to see you out here this morning Gary!

I have experienced an out of control case of infected cyst/cellulitis on my inner thigh, and can probably relate to your experience this week. I will spare the war story, but it's truly scary how something as minor as common skin bacteria can threaten one's life in such a short time.

Lots of great thoughts on this thread. I would like to suggest people also consider four things. Clean food, plentiful water, moderate exercise, and regular sleep are all small steps we can take every day to help ourselves. Sleep is when healing occurs most rapidly. Regular sleep also sets conditions that contribute to good psychological health and balance. I know that sounds trite, but the human body is a most intelligently designed system. For the most part, absent major physical issues, the human body will seek a balanced and healthy equilibrium. By feeding that system an optimal fuel supply and resting in correct intervals, other efforts such as medical interventions or exercise training can be maximized to their fullest.

Gary, so glad it looks a little better for you. That's some scary stuff. And TSD just really ain't the same without your input throughout the day. Rest well and heal up quick!

Gary, great to see you back and feeling better, my friend! :)

I guess you need to get an inexpensive straight razor just in case you every need to remove 4-5 days of growth, again! They work very well for one pass. :D

That stuff is not joke! My father had it a few months ago and we were afraid he had MRSA. Not any better but thankfully he healed up and thankfully you did as well.

Wow! I'm glad to see you are back home and on the mend aswell....I had no idea, this time of year everyone is so busy...We get used to seeing folks disappear for a few days or couple weeks and we miss them but don't think about it being anything serious...

Thanks for the articles... All this just reminds us of the frailty of the human condition...We all get so wrapped up in our various scenes and involved in those things we consider of the utmost importance. But our health can shut us down in a second. And all of a sudden, nothing is important to us but our health...I used to think I lived to play Jazz....But now I can remember a time all laid up in a hospital thinking...We live to breath....We live to be healthy....everything else comes after that. Sometime's I believe our creator arranges things like this to remind us or those around us of these things from time to time. To keep things in perspective...

I'm praying for your health my friend, and let us know how your recovery is going. And thanks for "pulling our coattails" on this one...We all need these wake up calls to remind us to pay attention....To keep check on our health and that of those we care about, friends, family and fellow Denizens...

Take care and keep us informed on your progress please....and by all means, shave man....You look like you've been on a lost weekend!! Shave Den-ites have a reputation to keep....};^)

I have been there and done that. (Cellulites) Sorry to hear this. I have had Cellulites off and on for the past 26 years. Seems like it's a never ending process. Good Luck.

You are right about the never ending process. It seems that once you have it you are in "the club" so to speak.

You not just "Whistling Dixie" I have been getting Cellulitis off and on for about 26 years. It doesn't take much to set it off. SWMbO found some A&D Ointment and I put it on my legs when the skin gets dry. (seems to help) http://www.target.com/p/a-d-origina...97&LID=76pbs&ci_src=328768002&ci_sku=12279597
Also it's not expensive. I have it in both legs. Welcome to the Club.
