I've been shopping around for a shave case I can use while traveling. I'd prefer something that can hold my shave kit as well as shower kit; and something made of canvas or leather for longevity. Anyone have a suggestion on a great shave case? I'm considering this case from Lewis and Clark: http://amzn.com/B002P0XMYO
I use the LL Bean bag in the large size. Its a bit large, but I tend to travel for 1-4 weeks at a time. The medium would do great for someone who only travels for a few days at a time. That looks like a good bag, I like the hanging feature. The LL Bean one that I use has that as well and thought it was stupid until a couple of months ago. I was in a hotel in Queens and the bathroom was so small there was absolutely no where to put the bag so I hung it from the towel rack. On vacation I did the same thing, so it is a useful feature. I didn't want leather, I travel so I wanted something in nylon or something like that so it would last and be water replellent. I am not kind to my luggage. My last bag lasted about 10 years before it completely fell apart.
I've been using one of these for years now. No complaints. It's just a square shape with a couple of pockets in the lid and sides. I recently (last week) decided to go back to old school Dopp. I think it will work out well.
Pantac seems to have some nice toiletry kits. They resemble the Carter and Bond military style leather wet pack, but made of cordura and for one-fifth the price. Scope and Laser has the best price on the Pantacs that I have found. Here is the link to the product page, in case you are interested.
Just posted this onthe other forum... My Dopp kit is one of my favorite possessions. To me it means the freedom to pick up and go. Silly? Maybe, but it is what it is. Maybe some of you can relate to a little obsession?
Markstar, I have to say I am impressed with the amount of stuff you can pack, very impressive. A well rounded kit.
Yes Brian, you are correct. That is a Koh-I-Nor that I picked up from ShoeBoxShaveShop.com. Thanks guys. I get around, so I do take my kit seriously.
Nice solid kit, but whats the beef flavor packet from ramen noodles doing in there? Does it cure sunburn?
You put it and the pieces of Jolt gum in a coffee cup, fill with water, microwave... instant meal. Add a drop or 2 of the Aqua Velva for seasoning.
Actually, I use the powdered beef broth like talcum powder, nothing says "manly" like the smell of beef... :happy102 Really it's just in case I stop somewhere late at night and can't grab something to eat.
Ebay, if you keep your eyes open, you can find them for a decent price, but you've got to look around and wait as they are often over-priced (IMO). I will also sometimes buy a whole travel kit just for one part or canister that I like. You can sometimes find a good surprise in those kits as the seller might know nothing about the razors or brushes in them, they just see it as an old kit. For example, I got that that mini bottle of Aqua Velva in a little kit that also had an unused aluminum handle tech for $7 shipped (IIRC). Like I said, you just have to watch...
Be careful. I used a natural bristle toothbrush in my errant youth, and I ended up with some serious recession of the gums as a result. I now use a soft nylon bristle toothbrush. Use the boar on your face, not in your mouth. I'm not trying to be a killjoy or a know-it-all. It's just my experience. YMMV, as always.
I'm using a Tumi dopp kit. Considering a Saddleback leather one as well but I don't think it will pack very well in my suitcase.
Kaseri, how do you find the Tumi Dopp Kit ? With out being obtrusive - do you travel for extended periods or holidaying ? Any information would be appreciated. I have been looking at the Tumi 'Riley' Dopp kit. Cheers,
Mark, where did you get the dopp bag? That's a pretty nice looking one. I've never been too overwhelmed with my bag but have been using it for about 15 years now.
