I finally got the time (I'm working looong hours on a TV show in detroit right now) for my first DE shave. I used a ball end tech with an astra blade, mitchells wool fat soap lathered up with a vulfix "mayfair" brush. I've been having some lather problems and I think I solved it today. I used a wetter brush and added quite a bit more water than usual. There was more lather and it stayed moister for longer than what I've been whipping up. I did 2 passes, one with the grain and one across, and reached what I decided is adequate. It's almost as close as I was getting with a mach 3 but I stopped because my neck was getting pretty scraped feeling. I always have trouble with under my chin and with my neck. My hair grows from my left ear toward my right ear with some slight waves in the direction. No matter how I do it, I've never been able to get really, really smooth down there. I had a few small nicks that quit bleeding before I even rinsed off and got the styptic pencil. They were all in that problematic area on my neck. It's not great but it's my first time. I figure that even if I were to never improve from my first try, I'll at least get the same shave as with a mach 3 for much less money.:happy102 A couple photos are attached for the visual among you. You can put a face to the name.
Sounds about as good as my first time, except you've gone straight to great equipment. It will get better. Just remember to take your time and NO pressure.
Good deal! Don't sweat the neck much. I've been at it for a while and I still can't get that good a shave on my jaw/neck. Just keep at it! Shave on!
Congrats! :happy088 MWF can be a little tricky at first, but once you get the ratio right, it almost becomes magical. So keep working on technique, and like Aaron says, it'll only get better from here on out.
