In all my years of shaving, I've never heard of a guillotine stroke, nor have I ever knowingly used it. "BUT" I will definitely try it now. Just goes to show @Queen of Blades there is a definite need for good ol' TSD!

The slant essentially accomplishes the Guillotine type stroke. The problem can be with slicing horizontally if not attentive with a typical DE.

One of my straights came with an instruction sheet describing a scythe type of action.

I think it is one of those instinctive moves that the elite don't need TSD for either

I think I’ll pass on using a scythe like motion with a straight razor..... but I’d like to see the video.

Heard that too and it smacks of ritualized superstitious hipstersnob hokum. Any remaining gases that never vented and happen to be bagged up with the grounds will be forced out (exorcised?) once the hot water hits them. Next thing, they'll be chanting naked and shaking cat bones over their mocha lattes to drive out the devils of bitterness.

Oh come on, give it a try. Straight scything is fun! And it'll save me the trip.

The cat bone thing doesn't work. I've tried it with a live cat and it just does nothing except piss off the cat. However, a tiny pinch of salt does wonders toward removing bitterness.

    You are not wrong...
    However...
It's only something you need to do with fresh ground coffee. Pre-ground bagged coffee has probably long since outgassed.

By displacing the Co2 beforehand, the water being used for the brew will hit all the grounds, rather than being shunted aside by some big linebacker sized bubbles.

One thing they always seem to forget to add is that a person can compensate for this by simply using more coffee grounds.

That's the first time I've ever seen a recommendation for using a "Gillette Slide" with a straight razor. Does anyone do that?

Nonsense. All trapped air will be quickly displaced by water once the grounds are soaked, whatever the brew method. Perk, pour or drip will accomplish it, not as fast as vacuum maybe, but it'll happen.

But by their logic, more coffee should result in more gas!

People like that, who deliberately overcomplicate the simplest things just to set themselves up as technical experts in mundane tasks, are irritating.
