Hi guys I currently use a mug or bowl to lather from time to time. I'm thinking scuttle for Xmas. Any recommendations or pros and cons?
    Thanks

What cons. If you love the feel of hot lather you can't go wrong. I just got my first scuttle from Robert Becker he is well known around here. I love it and now my wife and daughter have found what its all about and they want their own

I to use a mug or bowl, but there is many days I wish my lather stayed warm the whole time I was shaving instead of just at the first pass. I don't think you could go wrong with getting a scuttle.

If you shave at the sink you can always fill the sink with some hot water and put your bowl in to keep it warm. No extra cost:sad027:

I thought of that but, I rinse my razor after every pass and let it go down the drain. If I didn't our sink would mess up pretty badly do to we are on a septic tank system.

I rinse mine as well so it would be hard to float the mug also.

    Anyone have any pics?

Cons: some scents become/feel stronger when heated. Arko soap stick comes to mind. I like it normally but heated it's too strong to my likens. I'm not much for overpowering scents.

Pros: Everything else I guess? I don't use mine (Korium German scuttle) very often but when I do it's excellent. I think here in the rapidly coming winter I'll use it more.

Pros: Warm lather on a cold morning; a good scuttle will keep lather warm for a approximately 30 minutes.
Cons: Potential loss of lather if temp TOO hot; Some prep time involved (heating water, filling scuttle); some additional post-shave clean-up

I consider my scuttles a luxury time; not a shaving essential. If I'm in a mood to pamper myself, plus enjoy a longer, relaxed shave—the scuttle is an ideal accessory.
If I were new to wet-shaving, a scuttle wouldn't be that high on my list. I'd be more interested in other shaving items (blades, razors, brushes).

Many makes & types of scuttles out there: some handmade by talented artisans, some compiled from everyday items (bowls & mugs) by clever McGiver-types.
Robert Becker made both of mine. His prices are quite reasonable and his work and customer service are excellent. http://www.rabfeatsofclay.com

A scuttle is one of those things that is not essential to a great shave but can make the shave more enjoyable if you bowl lather. I have a Becker, I believe his medium size, and I use it whenever I bowl lather. It definitely keeps the lather warm for 3 passes.

I love my Ladysea. It's a 2 piece, so if I don't need the heat I can just use the bowl for a quick lather and shave. Had a Robert Becker before this one and loved it as well. 2013-08-08 22.24.20.jpg

I can't think of any cons when it comes to a scuttle. I don't use one but if I had one it would be used EVERY shave. Treat yourself and get one.......
