I remember seeing a post on single edge razor blades and the post answered the question of the shape or cut outs of the blade. I'm here at Harbor Freight right now and found a box with the edge notched out in the center and both corners (I think thats what I'm to look for). The price is right, $2.99 for 100 of them, on sale. Made in China, high carbon surgical steel. Will these fit a VALET single edge razor, it's at the house and I'm out of state right now. Cost is good, just don't know if I should get a few boxes or just the one. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I think I remember the post you're talking about. If I remember correctly, the industrial grade blade is just a tad shorter (blade edge to spine) than blades designed for shaving.

<off to see if I can find that post....>

Those look like regular SE blades. For a Valet, I think you need a Feather SE and the spine from an old Valet blade. Also I've heard that the industrial type blades don't shave all that well, but YMMV.

Thank you, I didn't know Valet used a different style of spine. That is good to know. I'll google it and see what I come up with.

I bought one box, so I'm not out too much. I'm sure there is something around the house I'll need them for. I might try one and see just how it does. I read another thread eariler tonight about corking, and stroping... I might try it on the SE and see how it does.

Valet are spineless blades. If you want to use a feather SE in a regular SE then you need to take a spine from an old GEM blade to use. However, to use in a valet, you won't have a spine.

Some valet blades require letter cutouts or they just won't fit. You don't have many options if that is the case. Either get some NOS valet blades with letter cutouts or get some feather SE blades.

If your valet doesn't require those cutouts, then a regular SE blade can be made to work, but it takes some doctoring. See the video.

Now, not all blades of the style shown are the same size. Some are narrower, some are wider, some are thicker, etc... if you get a bad size, it may not fit.

I remember watching his videos around the same time I joined the Den, but somehow I got the information all jumbled up and bass ackwards.

    Intentional or accidental?

    • youll want to look at the head and under the head. if it has either side clips, raised lines underneath, a swinging "cage" underneath or raised dots underneath those are the ones you DONT want. you want the one that you can SLIDE the blade into. the face of the head should either say AUTO STROP or VALET AUTO STROP. on most occasions if it JUST says VALET those are the ones you dont want.
