It seems that slickness is very important in a lather to give a great shave. I thought I knew what the slickness part was for?... ...to help the blade glide on skin to keep from getting nicks? I've started shaving using TOBS, but am wondering if there is a another cream that is slicker and will work better? Thanks!
Are you open to using soaps as well as creams? I've found MWF and Stirling to be the slickest. Another thing you can do to make the cream you have a bit slicker is to try to incorporate a bit more water into your lather.
Yes, I haven't used soaps , but I am certainly open to them. I also think I read they are slicker than creams?
Water? Hmmm, Maybe that is the secret, because I usually am shy about adding to much water and try to keep the lather from becoming to watery. I'll try it!
For me cushion>slickness. The most terrible soap I've ever used was Pre de Provence. It had lots of slickness but absolutely no cushion. Proraso red tube has very little cushion (but still some) and not much slickness but very beard softening and It is perfectly usable for me. PdP- never again... Cushion protects me from the blade resulting in a much more comfortable shave-less razor burn, less cuts. Now I am not downplaying slickness- my old reliable (Arko) is very slick but it is also very cushioning. With Arko I notice when I load heavy the lather is more beard softening and more cushioning but when I increase the water it becomes more slick but less softening and cushioning depending on how much water I add. It is is all about finding your preferred soap/water ratio through experimentation.
I'll take a thin, slightly runny lather over a fluffy, dry lather any day. Try these for a little extra slickness: Try a pre-shave oil or balm Always wet face before each and every pass Experiment with your lather until you find that perfect water/product ratio that will give you a nice, slick glide to your lather
Please check out this link.....interesting. I have found this site to be informing on other topics too. http://www.shaving101.com/index.php...having-lather-too-dry-too-wet-just-right.html
It never has for me, and I have not heard of it doing so for anyone else. Glycerin is one of the main ingredients in most (all?) soaps.
No. It's thick but it does not clog nor gum up brushes. It poses no issues for razors unless one is compelled to use a ridiculous amount and happen to be shaving with one of those multi blade cartridge razors—which easily clog.
I use soap and a little cream together and I find the lather is thicker and slicker, and I use a lot of soap on the brush to start
I'm partial to Cremo. It's my weekday shave prep and is very slick when used according to the instructions on the label. It even makes multi-blade cartridge shaving tolerable.
Cade is slick. I thought all of my soaps were slick enough until I started using Str8s. Then I noticed that my Cade was noticeably slicker and better for Str8 shaving than all my other soaps (Arko, Palmolive, DR Harris, MWF) and creams (Ingrams, Old Spice).
