Ok, here's a question: All of the plastic razor blade boxes I have display a hole/slit if I turn them over. The thing is, the hole/slit doesn't seem to be large enough for a used blade! Are these for air circulation...or are they for used blades? Just a curiousity of mine.
They are for used blades, though sometimes it does take a bit of effort to guide one in. I don't bother, I use a small metal savings bank for my blades, you can find them in dollar stores, souvenir shops etc. The most utility for the least amount of work.
Don't worry about the slot. You will eventually find a blade that you want to buy in bulk and they will not have that slot. Start now and get a can of soup broth and using a sharp knife poke a slot in the top. Drain the broth out of the can and use for some soup or other delicious dish. Make the slit a bit larger than the blade and rinse the can as best you can. Now if you wish you decorate the can. Me I just removed the label and let the plain can sit in a corner of my bathroom counter and deposit used blades when needed. When the can is full (several years from now) I will simply put it with the rest of my recyclables and to the recycler it goes.
I did basically the same thing, but I had a can of rustoleum sitting around so I spray painted the can with rustoleum. Otherwise, it would be rusting and leaving rings everywhere in the bathroom.
I got a "blade bank" from Bullgoose for a buck but you could make one out of nearly anything. Tea tin, coffee can, altoids mints...
Altoid tin....I like that one and think there is one of these kicking around in the truck somewhere.:signs021
the altoids tin sounds like a great idea! when its full do you throw it in the recycle bin or just normal trash?
I've never used an Altoids tin, but it sounds great. Just to be on the safe side, I'd tape it up with several wraps then toss it into the recycle bin.
For those of you with old houses there is usually a blade slot in the back of the medicine cabinet. This seems to hold an endless supply of blades-not sure where they go but I was very excited to find this. My house was built in 1949.
Someday I'd love to get a blade safe that looked like a battleship. This would be in honor of all of those great warships, that were sold for scrap after WWII, to make razor blades.:happy102
