protub.jpg diana_balsam.jpg _barbon_arcszesz_nagy.gif Oh la, la - this month is flying by so fast - soon summer will be over.....:( I get so much pleasure at kicking off the new week, so this is how my shave will be for:

    Menthol Monday:

    Omega Wooden Handle
    Super Speed/new Rapira
Proraso Green SC :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily: (older formula)
Diana Sport Menthol Balsam :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
Barbon AS :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
    JHL Cologne

I have been doing a lot of comparing between different soaps and creams lately, and I definitely find that the 2 Proraso Green versions have differences. In any case, they are both good, but I admit that I prefer the new formulation. Guys, unless you are able to tolerate heavy menthol, don't touch the Diana Sport balsam, because it's EXTREMELY powerful - even stronger than Osage Rub and Alcolado Glacial. ;) :D

Blind Blade Test, Shave of the Day (SOTD) Sunday August 12, 2012
    [IMG]
Prep: Brush soaking in hot water, face scrub with TSD Sandalwood soap, Tepid Water Shower
Razor: 1965 Gillette Slim Adjustable set to 9
Blade: Blind Blade Test Blade #9, Shave #1
Brush: VIe-Long LE Beehive Natural Horse Hair
    Soap: Tabac
    AS: English Leather
Post: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Rub, Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash Of Aftershave.

This is day twenty-three of the blind blade test, which is the first (and the last) shave with blade number nine.

Per the guidelines of the test I will not be posting my results of the blade, as we do not want other participants to be influenced by our own shaving experience. At the end of the test I will be posting my complete daily journal. (although I guess you can figure it out since I will not be using this blade again.)

All variables remain the same accept for the aftershave.

The picture is a recycle from a previous post as I have used this gear before.

I finally showered and shaved today at 10:30pm...lol!

    Shower: Burt's Bee's Men's care soap
Uncle Pooley's shave soap (has be reassigned as body/shampoo bar...used as shampoo bar today)
Brush The Body Shop Syntax Brush...debut. Seems to work fine for me. and the price is right!
Soap: Daisy Mountain Natural's Shave Soap. (Samples coming soon to a PIF near you!) *You can participate in a chance to win a sample here. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/brush-lather-pics-best-in-show-tsd-contest.29740/

A few small nicks as I was agressively shaving a few spots and one of those areas happened to have a small blemish.

All and all, not bad for a near BBS.

    Good morning

Monday’s shave, have to be back to work again. Stubble felt very wiry and tough (most likely just my own perception but who am I to judge my stubble…):

Logona Mann shave cream for a pre shave lather - left it to soak the stubborn stubble for about 5 full minutes. Followed up then by one of my favourite set-ups:
    Musgo Real pre shave oil
    Calani Dubai shave soap
Mühle Basic Nr. 02 shave brush with Silver Tip Fibre
Merkur Futur (first pass on a setting of 2.5 and second pass on a setting of 3)
    New Feather FH-10 blade
    Bloc Osma Alum
D.R. Harris Bay Rum after shave

The Futur has established itself as one of my rotation’s favourites; I am SO keeping this one.
Glorious shave, am looking half-way decent again after a week of paternity leave. All I need now is a haircut…

Wishing all of you a great week ahead!

Although the older version of Proraso Green cream is good, I definitely find that the newer one is a lot better.

I love the feel of this 38C! It has a long handle which doesn't seem to be a problem (I actually prefer short handles) and, the heft of this razor just shouts "Whisker Killer"! :happy088:

  20. gorgo2

    gorgo2 geezerhood

Didn't really need to shave today but couldn't resist trying to answer the age-old question: Can an unmodified Segal work with standard blades?

Answer: Yep, assuming you don't mind gouging up the cap getting blades on (this one's was already pitting so no big deal) and if you eyeball it closely enough to square up the blade when you clamp down tight. Once you do that, you end up with a mild but effective shaver (mild due to the blade needing to be clamped so tight, I think).

To get blades off, just raise the cap and snap one or both ends of the blade.

I'm gonna try this again in a few days with a sharper blade; as it is, I'm very DFS with no nicks.

    So...yeah.

    Great smelling cream, too.
